Overated?

It's funny that you think you're special for calling a team who hasn't lost all year to lose their first game. That's such a risky call. I'm so impressed with the way you were able to somehow imagine that a team could eventually break and stop being perfect.HasNoMoves wrote:wow...so they are overrated just like i thought....see what happens when they play good teams....cathedral 5-3 over LF tomorrow morning.....looks like their water arobics and syncronized swimming with couture yesterday really paid off haha...
Why the shocked smilie? I am not at all surprised that once they faced a decent team with some depth, they got shut down and the big scorer was as quiet as a church mouse. That team record and the scoring records of their best player were a product of the competition they played. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.TheBlizzard wrote:Overated?
And Breck is mostly underclassmen: sophomores and freshmen (Rudnick, Iverson, Traina). Pretty impressive group.TheBlizzard wrote:I don't know why the broadcasters are saying this is such an upset; Breck is a better all around team than Little Falls, they are conditioned better and just have better players (other than Hanowski), like people have been saying all year, if they would have playted better competition this year they would have been more prepared. Its not the players fault though, they have played great with the schedule they were dealt.
It was a joke, I am not shocked at all, I have been saying all year if they would have played a harder schedule it wouldn't have been so easy. But who really cares, it's not the kids fault, however had they played the same schedule as Breck I would bet any amount of money it would have been a better game, Breck was the first team they have faced that can play both ends and that has the same if not more team speed than them. They were just baffled all night; even Hanowski get free all game and looked as if he just gave up at the end.Gopher Blog wrote:Why the shocked smilie? Fixed.deacon wrote:I gues that's what happens when you don't play a touch schedule and never really get put into a tough spot like they were today. Good job Breck, lose to Warroad!
From a team perspective I don't disagree with you. From an individual one I was quite disappointed in Hanowski and Schmidt.viewfromthetop wrote:okay we have been suspicious of the Little Falls schedule all along and yes it is a weak one but they are still a good team and deserving of their spot in the state tournament. They had three wins in the regular season that stand out to me. Wins over Virginia which they expanded on in the state tournament, their win over SCC, and their 10-2 win over St. Cloud Tech. Unfortunately their one goal wins over Alex were a question mark in my mind because Alex did not win a game against a rated team and also played a weak schedule. This left me a little worried about how they would fare in the semis and finals in the state tournament.
Breck showed the quality of their team today but next time LF and Breck played who is to say the results would be the same. These are high school kids and anything can happen. Examples Edina beats MHD 3-0 regular season , loses in Tourney, HM wins over MHD 7-0 loses later in season 5-1, Cathedral wins over Warroad regular season, loses at state.
There are several other examples of turnabouts like this but the bottom line is you better be ready to play at the state tournament because anything can happen.
Edina played a tough schedule.deacon wrote:I gues that's what happens when you don't play a touch schedule and never really get put into a tough spot like they were today. Good job Breck, beat Warroad!
So have a lot of teams that lost but that wasn't really the point of my post. My point was that Little Falls didn't really know how to play from behind or play through a lot of adversity, but whatever. They're a good team but not a great team, like everyone claimed.grindiangrad-80 wrote:Edina played a tough schedule.deacon wrote:I gues that's what happens when you don't play a touch schedule and never really get put into a tough spot like they were today. So much for that.
The Flyers got out worked in every aspect of the game, and seemed that Ben and others didn't know what to do. This Breck team is quick, and deserved the win hands down. It will be a fun game to watch tomorrow. The SCC and Warroad was a great game also. Best of luck to the rest of the teams and their games.masterB wrote:This Breck team doesn't seem to get the respect that they deserve. To anyone who has been watching, their overall team speed, passing and defense are fantastic. they completely outclassed LF's in all phases of the game. Ben was nowhere to be seen. For the all time pts leader in state history, he was suprisingly absent. Also, for a team that has already beaten two of the AA state tourney teams this year it is shocking to think that Breck was a 4th seeded underdog to LF's. I predict a 4-2 Breck over WR victory.
Yeah I'm not really sure, but I do know that "great" teams do not get outplayed like Little Falls did today on the biggest stage for the highest stakes.shins wrote:Breck was fantastic today.... great speed and defense. My question to you is what exactly your definition of a great team? LF is currently 29-1 on the season, they could finish #3 in state.... is there only one great team?? two great teams?? A bunch of "good teams" and 100 lousy ones??? Hard to pin down everyones definition of what makes a team great?
I would define great teams as having a combination of talent, depth, great coaching, defense and chemistry. I just didn't see it in Little Falls. don't get me wrong, they are a good team. you don't go undefeated by not being a good team. but if those guys played in the lake or classic lake conference they are lucky to go .500. no doubt in my mind. they had from what i saw one good line and a pretty decent goaltender. their overall depth and team speed wasn't that great. i think all of the AA teams in the tourney and Breck in A are great teams (along with St. Thomas Academy). St. Thomas Academy, prob the best team in A this year didn't even make the tourney. the talent and depth assembled on these squads are impressive to say the least.deacon wrote:Yeah I'm not really sure, but I do know that "great" teams do not get outplayed like Little Falls did today on the biggest stage for the highest stakes.shins wrote:Breck was fantastic today.... great speed and defense. All very true, if all you watched is Little Falls v The Breck School.masterB wrote:I would define great teams as having a combination of talent, depth, great coaching, defense and chemistry.
