Big Nine Teams

Watched White Bear Lake and Century. Century is above average and that might be good enough to win a weak Big Nine. I like their goaltending and first line.

My brother inlaw watched Blake and Owatonna and said Owatonna has two average lines and a very bad defense. He didn't mention anything about their goaltending.
Who was in net for the panthers?
Century

Kautz was the Century goalie.

Brock Kautz played very well for being a sophmore. Is Kautz going to be the full time goalie for Century or will he be switching off with Sellnow?

Austin seems to have improved... Probably not enough to crawl out of last place in the big nine this year. Lost to marshall 5-2 on saturday. I am an alum from Austin and they look millions of times better than they were last year.. Impressed with isaac gorman, a sophmore?? and a freshman marcus stoulil... Again probably wont come out of the cellar of the big nine but i wouldnt be surprised to see 5 wins.

interesting to hear that century might have two legitimate goaltenders this season

Marshall lost everybody from last year and are going to struggle immensly. This was not good for Austin getting beat 5-2 by them. Austin however should win some games by looking at there schedule.

Went to the Mayo vs. Redwing game last night and it was fast game to say the least. Mayo is going to be a team to watch as they had no problem with Redwing whatsoever. Redwing was only able to stay in the game due to being on the powerplay 10 minutes of the 2nd period. They had two powerplay goals that they survived on. Mayo has three good lines that work very hard and if they continue to work like they did last night they will win alot of games this year and surprise alot of teams. Mayo was also missing a defensman (concussion) and another forward for this game. And it looks like Century had no problem with North over on the other side of town. J.M. seems to be having some problems with looking at the results of the last two games. Albert Lea barely left Waseca with a win???????????? I hope they just had a bad game or they are going to struggle. Winona put it to Lacresent pretty good. Should get interesting over the next few weeks.

Itech22 No problem whatsoever huh? You forgot to mention that RW out shot Mayo in this game. You also forgot to mention Red Wing took five penalties in the
third period which led to powerplay goals by the Spartans Jack Dingle and Spencer Lee, which allowed Mayo to not only stay in the game, but to win it. INCLUDING a 5 on 3
so please start telling the WHOLE truth. Oh you forgot to mention the empty netter too.

Guess this conversation needs a Rocket fan for the middle ground. Shots were 40 to 31 in favor of RW. 18 of RW's shots came in the 2nd period during their extended power plays. In the first and third periods Mayo outshot RW 27-22. Two PP goals for each team. Mayo's Lee also had 2 shorties on RW.
Mayo's goalie had a varsity experience of one period prior to this game.
http://sports.smumn.edu/bignine/2008/20 ... goalie.htm
RW allowed a goal 12 seconds into the game. Holy Smokes, that did not wake them up and they allowed Mayo to score another one just over a minute later. Here's a focus problem that needs to be addressed.
Spencer Lee had 4 goals and 1 assist. According to the big 9 website
http://sports.smumn.edu/bignine/2008/20 ... coring.htm Lee had 1 point for the entire season last year.
RW had balanced scoring from 4 different players.
Sounds like two teams that have plenty of work in front of them. Bring on the Rockets!

Gamegod93 you need to relax. I did tell the truth but didn't get into every faucet. Yea Redwing took 5 penalties so what Mayo had more penalties than Redwing throughout the game and was killing a few 5 on 3's themselves. Bottom Line Mayo won the 1st and 3rd period and would have won the 2nd barring like you defended Redwing not having 5 penalties. So this is the truth Mayo simply outplayed them and Redwing ran out of gas to early in this one. Mayo also gave up two powerplay goals themselves. And yes Redwing outshot Mayo 40 to 31 but in this one that stat didn't mean anything.

I thought the RW/Mayo game was very entertaining. Both teams played hard all three periods and the game had some nice run and gun elements, which makes it fun for the fans! Both teams had plenty of PP/PK time.
Mayo was without James Powers, which seemed to hurt them quite a bit with the younger D-men struggling at times. Mayo's def zone coverage was inconsistent and the PK was difficult to watch. You can tell the Spartans have an inexperienced team despite the large number of seniors.
I think some overlooked the play of Van Galder in the nets. I thought he played very well for Mayo. Spencer Lee has speed that kills and he could be a player to watch. Adam Truex is a beast and it seemed like he was on the ice for Larry Olimb-like minutes.
Red Wing is ranked 9th in Class A, but from what I saw that might be a bit high. Perhaps the Wingers had an off night? However, I think the Spartans are going to be better than most people think judging by the comments here the past month or so. They will win more than the 5-6 games people have been saying....I still think it is a 2 team race in the Big Nine between Century and Faribault, but who knows?

Lourdes at Owatonna

Thursday at Four Seasons Centre
Lourdes 3
Owatonna 3
*Owatonna lead 3-1, but Lourdes made a nice comeback. Owatonna had a penalty shot with 35 seconds left, but the Lourdes goalie made a nice save on Snorek. Lourdes also had a couple of great chances in Overtime. Overall these teams looked pretty even.

So Lourdes is definitely not nearly is good as last year's team?
NP beats East 6-4 with an empty netter..

Winona travels to Mankato tomorrow to take on Mankato West for their first conference showdown of the year. Who do you think will take this one as the Winhawks are coming off of 2 decent wins in the last few days.

I think depends on if West "football" hockey players r in hockey mode are not.....If not i look for this one to be a close psyical game that could go either way

Winona beat Mankato West 6-0
West had their chances but couldn't get one pass the Winona goalie, Welle. It looks like West is still trying to find their game, they're only two games into the season. Also, way too many penalties for Mankato.

It was a great defensive game for the Winhawks and both teams took many unnecessary penalties.

Jesus.,......Who got the goals for mayo? and also looks to me like Van Guilder has a bit of an edge over Eide but its to early to tell
