Even in not playing well the Beavers gave themselves chances to win.
Scoring on the PP will be near the top of the list for practice on Monday I would guess.

But still a good weekend - all things considered.

Miami had a little trouble, but away from home, big expectations, a rink they don't see a lot - they still have to be considered a top team. Not THE top team, but perhaps will be back on top before too long (if it matters).

Ok so i'm not going to say that the Beavers are not good enough to be ranked with the top teams, because they've played with the top teams but I argue that the Beavers have not done enough to earn their position as top 5 team.
The reason i say this is because they haven't beaten anyone (besides miami this weekend) I want to see the combined records of the teams they have beaten to this point but the only "impressive" wins that they had previous to this weekend was Northern Michigan and Minnesota and i guess you could consider a home sweep of a .500 Air Force team too. None of which are all that impressive to be honest.
At the end of the year they may be a top 5 team who has the ability to impress but to this point they don't deserve to be where they are with what they have done to this point.

I don't think people put a lot of stock in the rankings - its more of a talking point or to get an idea of how good the next opponent might be for the fans.

But the Beaves have yet to be ranked in the top five on the national polls, so apparently the 'rankers' agree with you.

Lee's formula ranking as displayed somewhere above has them #1 but as he will tell you the more games teh better the system works.

Looking at two very similar teams
Duluth Bulldogs 9-4-1
and BSU 11-2-1

Bulldogs opponents 45W-54L-13T or about 46% win pct.
Beavers 37-45-15 or about 46% win

Bulldogs have played one team with a winning pct above 500
Beavers have played two.

Bulldogs worst (in terms of record) two opponents
Mich Tech 3 wins - most impressive game a win over UMD.
Clarkson 4 wins - most impressive game a loss to BC by one goal.

Beavers with 4 wins over Alabama (3-9-0) - Alabama most impressive game is a win over Notre Dame.
Robert Morris 3-9-1 most impressive game a 4-3 loss to CC.

Wins are good, ties are okay, sort of.

What counts is the next game and then the league play-offs.
For Bemidji a good record is important because an upset inthe play-offs means looking for an at-large bid and that is why the non-conference wins - losses are so important.

UMD - as a WCHA team doing well in the final five (making it there) is important - they do not necessarily have to win it. They have a little more opportunity than BSU when it comes to making it to the NCAA play-offs.

Elliot i never made an argument that UMD should be in the top 5, they're about where they should be ranked, and from your argument that means BSU should be there too. My argument is that they're overrated for what they've done to this point. Placing them anywhere from the spot below Quinni to where UMD is at would be accurate in my estimations, they're just too high right now especially for whatever 2 writers keep giving them 2 first place votes in the CBS poll.

No argument here.

Most in Bemidji realiza the rankings do not mean much (if eanything).
We are concerned about teh pair-wise as that can get the Beavers by an upset and into the NCAA.

Also, tDogs are at least my second favorite WCHA team.

1970 Cornell team went 29-0-0. That's the only "perfect" season so far.

Not sure about teams who didn't record any losses but maybe had one or more ties.

A Bemidjian asking this question? And the self proclaimed "know-it-all" of the town?!? For shame!

A list of all college unbeatens according to CCHA research:

Colgate '42-'43 - 11-0-0
Colgate '46-'47 - 13-0-0
Clarkson '55-'56 - 23-0-0
Cornell '69-'70 - 29-0-0 (Ken Dryden & Co.)
Bemidji State '83-'84 - 31-0-0 (Joel Otto & Co.)
Alabama-Huntsville '95-'96 - 26-0-3

I have never proclaimed to know it all...

And I was fishing...

and it worked...

Now I, and everyone, know who accomplished something extra special....

So, THANK YOU.

Convincing win for BSU tonight 8-2 over division foe Niagara University.

Niagara played Bemidji fairly close, they were outshooting the beavers late in the second period. BSU came out with fire late in the 3rd though and turned the game into a blowout

Yikes. 4 power play goals, 3 during a 5 minute elbowing penalty on Read. A fall from #1 in Pairwise before the game to #3 (not that big a deal). Just a bad night.

If they stay in the top 4 pairwise, they could be the top seed in the West Regional at the X...hosted by possible non participant, University of Minnesota. That would be something.

A little early to be talking about number one seeds isn't it?

shouldnt have been a 5 minute in my opinion. Bemidji had all the momentum in the world at that point, it wasnt that dangerous of a hit and Read wasnt going after anyone...
