D6 teams that have not lost in District play are: Jefferson, EP, Waconia and Prior Lake. On Friday WBL plays EP, Jefferson has Waconia and STMA faces Roseau in the EP tournament.

I haven't seen a lot of good squirt hockey, but I did happen across a little of a STMA game. Usually when a D5 team (at any level) is pretty good, they like to fly under the radar a bit. Last year's STMA squirt team got a little positive pub, and I think the EP tourney should do the same for this year's team.

From the looks it we will know a lot more about this years A squirts following the EP, NSP and Edina tourneys over the next few weeks. All the major players seem to be in at least one of those tourneys

In the Eden Praire Tournament it looks like the Pool with Jefferson, STMA, Waconia, and Roseau is stacked. Roseau has been blowing teams away this year up north and may surprise a few people. I think the wild card comes out of this pool, along with Minnetonka and Eden Praire. I will catch the games on Saturday afternoon.

Watch out for White Bear!

They have an outstanding goalie that can keep them in any game.

Heard OMG and Minnetonka tied from a dad from Minnetonka but no details anyone there with some insight.

The bloom is off the rose for Stillwater with a 3-3 tie with Tartan.

The Ponies scored to tie it by pulling goalie with less than a minute.

Also had a shot from the slot with 20 seconds to go to win but hit the goalie in the shoulder.

Stillwater outshot Tartan 34-8 but ran into a hot goalie.

i have not seen any Choice League updates as of yet. That dad must have moved onto peewees by now.

A few good squirt teams from a trny, chatter, and scrimmages, I know there are others. Perhaps a post to just to list squirt trny winners would be warranted.

Choice Squirt League is doing fine. 7 teams this year versus 4 last year. With more kids, the overall talent appears to be more spread out from top to bottom across most of the teams. The level of play is good, and would be competitive with most associations' squirt A level. However, since the Choice teams are intended to be balanced within the league, none of the Choice squirt teams are as deep as some of the top association squirt A teams.

Since Choice hasn't been quite the topic it was last year, maybe some of the parents who had the biggest issues with it moved on to PWs.

I agree somewhat with what you say. One thing I do disagree with is that there doesn't seem to be very many second year kids in the squirt league. It's mostly first year kids and a lot of kids moved up from mites, some even two years ahead. Although they can move the puck up and down the ice, and they look good doing it, a lot of them are very small and lack the phyiscal tools at this age. They shy away from contact and a lot of them just don't pass. I would say this is more of a development league. I have my kid there now, but I don't believe I will send him back next year. I was very happy with the squirt program, but the general consensus with a lot of the parents I've talked to is that most won't send their kid back for the second year.

I don't believe the teams are at an "A" level. There are some very talented kids out there. As you say, they're spread out. There are also a lot of kids out there that I believe are bodies and that is why they're able to have seven teams. There should probably only be four or five teams.

1. Never heard of choice league.

2. Edina has lost at least 2.

3. Duluth does field A Squirt teams but haven't been very strong over the last few years.

For someone who clearly dislikes that program, you sure seem to know a lot about it. I'm sure it's not from standing around the water cooler at work. I'm sure your kid is a true "A" player and the rest of us couldn't carry his/her nut cup -- er, helmet.

InigoMontoya are you a squirt expert or what? Your call on STMA hit it on the head. I just watched 4 great squirt teams in the EP tournament. Minnetonka pulled out the win in overtime over EP and STMA won 3-1 over Osseo/Maple Grove. Final tonight #2 seed STMA-vs-wildcard Minnetonka. Minnetonka tied OMG in pool play and STMA has only given up 2 goals in 4 games. Good luck to both teams

STM has a great goalie. Beat Jefferson 1- 0 and got out shot 26 to 8. Jefferson beat Minnetonka last week 2 to 0.

forest lake 3 highland park 0 [ game was even had a few breaks\ plays go our way,the only difference].

Eden Prairie championship saw a very good game, featuring a metro powerhouse in Minnetonka and up and coming rural underdog STMA. Game was well contested. STMA had some penalty trouble particularly in OT leaving them without 2 of their best shooters when it came time for shootout. Game had a little of everything good goaltending, some pretty goals, and good flow. Puck movement by both teams was very good considering the heavy forecheck by both teams. Nice puck poise and decision making for this level. Congrats to both teams for a well fought battle.

I didn't get to the championship game because of other commitments but I did see the rosters earlier in the day. Tell me this, how can STMA have 14 skaters and 2 goalies who split equal, and Minnetonka can only roster 13 skaters and 2 goalies, one seeing most of the action. Shame on a large program like that doing that at the squirt level.
