I hate to say it, but I just don't think my Bears are are ready to face the Pioneers on Tuesday. I know crazy things can happen in a rivalry game, but as of late, the December game is never very close. It just doesn't mean as much as in March.

I won't make any predictions on the score, because it truly can go either way. But all I have to say is, Pioneers, you better be ready for sections - because IF we do face you, I think we may just end your streak.

He's right, I certainly wouldn't be crushed if we lost.

WB usually fields a team which develops over the length of a season, and shows up ready to play in sections.

2005 was the last time for the Bears, and they had one of the best teams in that tournament. Totally outplayed Duluth East, and yet again, couldn't stop the first round curse.

I'm a HM fan and I thought that 2005 WBL team (25-3-3) was the best in the State that year. They truly are cursed in the State Tournament Quarterfinals. That was not a very good Duluth East team. They came into the tournament with 11 losses.

and cursed in sections, and last year cursed by the refs, and yes, the refs did determine the outcome of the game.

I'll take Bears 3, HM 2. Either the winning goal comes late in the third or in OT.

Could definitely go either way.

Wow!!

Let me say that IF WBL wins, it will be a HUGE upset. Who has WBL played? They beat a crappy Cloquet team, who WBL has beat up for years, and even shut out last year like 7-0. When you score 8 goals on 26 shots, that's bad goaltending, not superior play. And they beat an even more miserable Hastings team.

WBL barely got past Century, and were outplayed by a delpleted East team, on a larger sheet of ice, in which WBL's speed should have taken advantage of and failed to do so.

Hill has outplayed every opponent this year, and dominated BSM in a 2-2 tie, only being thwarted by Jacob Meyers 36 saves in net. Hill beat a decent SSP team with Gopher goalie recruit Adam Wilcox, and destroyed a cupcake like Sibley, which should be in the class of a Hastings and Cloquet.

The score for Hill versus Marshall was closer than the game. Completely outplayed them, and Marshall is not ranked as high because of losses to Tonka, Tartan and Hill.

The difference between the two teams?

Hill is in school right now talking about how many goals should they beat WBL by in order to be satisfied, while WBL has the mentality, "We hope we can break the streak." WBL has a hesitant confidence, while Hill carries an absolute confidence. Can't stress enough the huge difference that makes.

As other comments on here are more realistic, that we just have to believe that WBL will be in full tilt come sections, it is my belief that anything closer than 3 goals should be a moral voctory.

If WBL wins?? Then it's because I hope they take my comments as locker room bulletin board material, because what I have seen out of WBL this year, versus what I have physically seen out of Hill?????

Fish, I agree with most of your comments, but you have to keep in mind that on any given night, a goalie can win (or lose) you a game. These are kids, and you never know what you are going to get. Who would have thought the WBL Sr. goalie last year would give up 5 goals on 19 shots and get outplayed by the HM Soph goalie?

Although HM is a huge favorite, anything can happen. I am sure you were at church on Sunday praying for a little puck luck to go the bears way. Or are you canvassing the HM parking lot looking for extra-curricular activities.

Yes, that 2005 team was a great team, but East's goalie played well, and Zach Faust didnt have his best game...
Section finals lately has been WB outplaying HM, and getting beat nonetheless. 2006 Was a great game, and a goal scored on a pp in OT. That call never should have been made. '07 and '08 Sager completely outcoached Lechner, outplayed Hill, but POOR goaltending has cost the Bears. Whatever happened to WB's strong goaltending(Meyers, Arnio, Anderson, Faust?????????
My prediction in a perfect world= WB 5 HM 4
My prediction in reality=HM 6 WB 2

Both teams should be "up" for the game, and if WB's goalie can stand on his head, and Birkinbine and Wahlin can get the offense going, they have an outside shot.
Go WB!

I think this is the most important part of the explanation for why we're at ten in a row, with a chance at eleven. Yes, Hill has probably been the more talented team in the majority of those games. But don't underestimate the mental side of the rivalry.

And thanks for bringing back some happy memories with reminiscences on the 2005 WBL-DE state tourney game. Though I should note that some of those 11 East losses that year came via forfeit; they weren't that bad, and Chris Sall in goal certainly peaked at the right time. It still was a big upset, though.

While all that is true this is the Hill v. WBL game. White bear will take this game much more seriously then East, Hastings, Cloquet etc. When pride is on the line white bear comes out firing. And i would also like to add that White Bear did out play Hill in 08 sections, the last time they played in the finals. Phillippi had a great game. Also remember anything can happen any given night. That was been proven by the woodbury/park game last thursday and the richfield/hill game last year.

Listen, wbhockey02..... quit questioning my psychology, and let's get these Bears pumped up, "because NOBODY BELIEVES IN THEM... WE ALL DOUBTED THEM".... and they need to go out, prove us wrong, and play the best hockey game they can, and let's celebrate a Bears victory!!!

Lots of angst among the Bear fans on this thread. I'm glad we can be there for you. Possibly you should all meet for a group hug.

For you public schoolers:

angst
–noun
1. a feeling of dread, anxiety, or anguish.
2. a feeling of anxiety or apprehension often accompanied by depression.

I guess 10 straight losses to Hill-Murray will do that to you.
