Highland has successfully knocked out Roseville, the #2 seed from D2 in a decisive 4-0 victory. Also Mpls Storm has come out of nowhere to be in the D2 Championship game on the 27th with Stillwater. Mpls Storm was ranked 7th entering the tournament on a play in game. So 3 of the top 5 teams going into the district tournament are out. Great hockey! Highland and Armstrong/Cooper play each other on the 27th, the winner of that game will play the loser of the championship game to determine 2nd and 3rd seeds.

Looks as though D10 is shaping up like everyone anticipated. No big upsets. Since Centennial won their district, they advance automatically to regions. If Centennial does not win the D10 District tournament they enter regions as D10's #2 seed. If they win of course they enter as #1. I think the big game is going to be Anoka/Elk River on Saturday to determine who advances to the championship game I also think Blaine has a shot at defeating either team, as they have tied each in the past. Anoka is a very fast team, while Elk River has solid goal tending and aggressive play. Typical D10 team. D10 Resional Seeds willbe determined on Championship Sunday 2/28/10 at Fogerty Ice House in Blaine.

Note: I know it's been like this in the state hockey tournaments since, perhaps, the dawn of history, but it seems messed up that should the #1 seeded teams assigned to the Blue division (Leagues 3, 10, and 16) win their division, such team can (at best) get a #2 state seed. Likewise, the runner-up team from the Blue division has a shot at the #1 state seed. Obviously, Minnesota Hockey has no respect for seeds necessarily indicating the better performing team. (Perhaps, berth might be a better term than seed, in this case.)
