Is the big question in section 1.

Either team could do it. NP played them pretty tough a few weeks ago. 3-2 OT Lourdes

Went to the West game in Duluth to see them lose to Notre Dame of WI 2-1. ND scored with two minutes to go in the third. Fast game, and ND was the better team. West goalie Spiess played well.

Very surprised to see Lourdes lose. Can anybody shed any light on what happened?

Also looks like New Prague is playing really well.

Not to much chatter from the Albert Lea Tigers fans. Is the team having a slow start or slump. I have not read many articles in the local paper.

They have one of the best Coaches in the state. Mr Nystrom will bring these guys back to life in no time. :D

The Lourdes hockey team is not as
Dominate. I think as Samuelson and funk
Go so does Lourdes hockey this year.

Lourdes

Just my opinion on Lourdes as I have been a fan for a few years. I think they might not be the team they have been in the past. Not only in the talent of their players (there is still talent), but watching over the years I do not think the current coaching can inspire greatness with the current team.

GAMES FOR 1/8

First, my apologies for not updating lately. Its been a busy winter break. Without further ado, today's games are the following:

New Prague vs. Holy Angels
Northfield vs. Farmington
Albert Lea vs. Winona
Mankato East vs. St. Paul Highland Park
Austin vs. Waseca
Red Wing vs. Chanhassen
La Crescent vs. Viroqua (WI)

...and we get our most anticipated game of the season (up to this point) at last: :D

Rochester Lourdes vs. Mankato West

I want to say West here, but until Lourdes loses a sectional game (which they haven't in however long) I can't go against them. Though, IF there is a team that can knock the Eagles off their pedestal I believe it is the Scarlets. I expect a close, one-goal, physical, hard fought game. Two competitive teams; if the Lourdes D cannot contain Goettl and Frentz it could turn into a shoot-out.

Should be some excellent hockey today!

Was at the West v Lourdes game. Nice prediction on this one, Roy, for calling a one goal Lourdes win.

West's Derek Frentz scores maybe ten seconds into the game, and then West goes up 2-0 in the middle of the first on a goal by Nate Krueger. West seemed to be rolling. Late in the first period Frentz is hit hard with a clean check and is out for the rest of the game with a rib injury.

West adjusts the lines in the second period, but gives up three Lourdes goals (I did not catch who scored for Lourdes, and it isn't up on hockey hub yet). In the third period both teams have some chances but no further scoring. 3-2 final, Lourdes.

Lourdes really has the inside track now to the #1 seed. Hopefully West will bounce back.

The game was very entertaining. The first period the
Lourdes defense was terrible. West put pressure on the Lourdes
Defense and they coughed up the puck nine out of ten
Times in that first period. The second period was even until the west team
Got a power play. The power play did not go well. Lourdes had more chances
Than the west team did and west was on the power play. Lourdes netted a shg with the great effort. After that point in that period west was back on their heals and very hesitant. This hesitancy gave Lourdes exactly what they needed and Lourdes proceeded to get to all the loose pucks and boxed west in their own zone. I would say eighty percent of the period was played in the west zone. The passing that was so precise and tape to tape in the first became missed sticks and passes to lourdesplayers. This led to two more goals in the next five minutes. The period ended with Lourdes up 3-2. The start of the third west started out with crisp passing and skating, but the Lourdes defense played great for the whole third. All the shots by west were contested or from the outside. Lourdes played the best defense I have seen this season in the third period. I was very surprised to see Lourdes play good defense like that since they have not done that all year so far. I tell you what I would love to see a rematch in late February.
