Not sure why you replied to me with those comments. I was discussing the GA, not recruiting age. Yes, Motzko is willing to recruit young, but he still honors the GA.

However, regarding the GA:

The gentleman's agreement is a big reason why recruiting has gotten earlier and earlier. And it's bad for the players. Glad to hear more and more programs aren't honoring it.

Don't laugh, we have a daughter who was initially wait-listed at the U despite having very good grades and an ACT score of 31. Funny thing was she was accepted right away at Wisconsin and Michigan...

"Just to add some context, the owners of Gradient (the parent and/or sponsor of Gentry Academy) are Chuck and Tami Lucius. I'm not sure where they "reside" now, but they definitely lived in North Oaks at one point. They have some talented boys in 7th and 6th grade, both of whom just finished playing for Blaine's AA Peewee team. They've played in MULTIPLE associations over the years."


*So if the older bro was a 7th grader in March of 2016....did he repeat 7th grade for the 16/17 school year or is he repeating 8th grade this year?

At least hockey has age restrictions..... nothing like watching a 21 year old win a state wrestling championship.......or a state chsmp being declared ineligible by the NCAA due to his amateur status like happens in other sports in Minnesota.

We have it pretty good in hockey.

Doubtful. There was a very long delay for the first 2003 commit. It came two years after the first 2002 commit. I think Cippolone was 1st 2002 and Savage was the first 2003, just a few days before the first 2004 when the Lucius brothers gave the verbal to Minnesota.

Judging from the time it took for the 2003, the NCAA coaches actually seem to be waiting longer than they did to commit 2000, 2001, and 2002 kids.

I'll post this here, seems to be closest to the topic. As I watched the Wild tonight it occurred to me that both Charlie Lindgren and Mike Rielly were playing. Both these kids were cut by their AAA team after 8th grade. Then it occurred to me that Mario Lucia and Justin Kloos gut cut as well. Seems judging kids at that age might be a little risky, ya think! This recruiting thing is off the rails. To put that in perspective...to the best of my knowledge 5 93 born players from Minnesota have played in the show, 3 of them were so far off the radar nobody had even heard of them. My point? Let it play out a few years! Kids mature and improve at incredibly different rates....what seems certain today often looks silly 5 years later.

PS....at that time Seth Ambroz was considered a top 5 North American prospect, just sayin

If the older Lucius has a birth date of 5/2003...he should be a sophomore this year. The younger one has a birth date of 4/2004, he is a freshmen this year. The math never made sense to me? I find it odd that the kid would turn 19 in May of his senior year.

Not necessarily. It's not unheard of for boys born in May to start school when they're six. You see it more often with July/August birthdays but the Mays/Junes are out there too.

Wasn't part of Lucia's downfall committing to young kids who did not develop? Now Motzko is doing the same? With the pick of the litter you guess?

Not to say that Motzko won’t be recruiting kids young, but I’m pretty sure these boys were Lucia recruits.

Reminder that the Lucius family is very well off. I have no direct knowledge but good chance they didn’t need any scholarship money and this was a no risk offer/commitment.

I’m as turned off by the young commits as anyone and really hope the new rules pass to change things. But this is likely a no lose situation which gets them a kid that’s currently probably the best player in the state in his age group without giving up anything. Would you say no?

Who has seen Gentry 15s this year? Chaz is an absolute monster physically at that level and plays a style reminiscent of Chief Kief Bellows. The Galaxy just won World Hockey Invite in Chicago this weekend and are #1 ranked 15 team in the U.S.

He's far from the only horse. They have an outstanding player named Schimek. No weaknesses. Impressive team.
