i think austin has a legit chance at upset in the playoffs if they keep themselves out of trouble. they have more than just one player who is good

Waseca vs. Albert Lea Tuesday in Albert Lea.
Waseca played Rogers very tough, losing 4-3. Rogers has since outscored their opponents 25-2. Waseca also scored five goals against Northfield, losing 8-5. Waseca will have to play much tighter defense against Albert Lea in order to pull an upset.

East vs Austin. Tale of two not very talented or smart teams. Both teams with shaky defense and goaltending. Austin was up by three with 7 minutes to go and take a couple of penalties that East capitalized on to make it 7-6. Then with a minute to go, the Austin defense lets Kolstad get behind it for a breakaway goal, his 4th of the night. On the ensuing faceoff, Austin dumps the puck in the East zone, defensemen chips it past a pinching defensemen leading to a 2-1 that Kolstad buries for the game winner. I say Winona gives these two teams a battle

He did not play tonight. The coach is switchin between him and Ben Waalkens to see who deserves the starting spot for the majority of the games. He is playing against Faribault on thursday.

Yeah, Albert Lea dominated Waseca. The only comment I would make is that the door is open for Casanova to win the starting spot because Waseca scored two goals on 10 shots and Andy Meyer hit a pipe after beating Waalkens in the second period. Not a sharp night but maybe he got rusty while AL was down at the other end so often.
AL looks very good up front.

Is Waalkens a Sophomore or Junior. If I remember right he was very good in youth hockey I dont know if he had an off night or just got rusty in throughout the game.
What happened to West and New Ulm?
All we hear about is how good West is going to be this year and then they get bombed by New Prague. What happened, is New Prague that much better of a team?
AL vs. Waseca

Waalkens is a junior. AL was missing two of its better forwards in Hanson and Dokken. 2 sophomores filled in admirably with one getting a goal.

West played very sloppily all night although that had something to do with New Pragues speed. NP has two very good lines and they won the races all night. West is still trying to find itself and it is very early in the season. I would expect them to come back strong Thursday night against Owatonna.

I thought the whole AL team was alittle shaky..Im not saying they played bad..but for some of the players this was the first varsity game they played..and others the first of the year..they just needed to get the dust out and they will do fine..AL will do fine this year
I AM THE TRANCE IN THE MOTION

Can anyone stop Albert Lea from winning section 1A? Is Marshall up to the task? West?

Marshall is very solid top to bottom, Marshall v. West and Marshall v. Albert Lea will be great games.

Albert Lea lost tonight to Faribault. Not sure on the score but i do know that the shots were in the 60's-20's or 30's in favor of AL Faribaults goalie must have played unbelieveable i think the score was 6-4 but im not really sure i just heard it from someone who was there. Can anyone give us a score and maybe a summary of the game so that we know what happened

Albert Lea did lose 6 to 4 to fairbault, one empty netter by fairbault. shots were somewhere around 52 to 22 in favor of AL... Fairbault goalie was amazing... AL pretty much dominated 1st and 2nd period leading 3-1 going into third couldnt finish it and it was a fight to the end. Fairbault had some pretty rowdy fans who got into the heads of some of the players i think. was a good game but fairbaults goalie definatly kept them in the game... and seth helgeson, aint got nothin, he did score tho... an empty netter

thank you Tigerpride. I was at a Faribault game recently and did not think that the goalie was the good. They were playing Mankato East who is not that good of a team and he did not see that many quality shots. I also don't think that Halgeson is that good. He did score 5 of Mankato East but they dont have good goaltending and if there was a decent goalie in the nets then i think only one of the 5 go in maybe two. i heard that he made a verbal commitment to the gophers. Does anyone think that he is that good??

i dont think that he is good enough now but assuming that he is a sophmore i think hes a dam good sophmore... also big for his age.. in a few years i think if he keeps working at it he might be but right now.... no way

Ok think about this situation...
So he has verbally committed to the gophs. what if he does not progress in the way that they want him to. he has already said that he is playing for the gophers so wont other D1 teams that would like him to play for them stop looking at him as a prospect. this might be dumb cause i dont know much about recriuting but i think that you can sign a contract on a certain date of your senior year. i dont think he should of said anything until maybe the end of his junior year but i dont really know much about recrituing and stuff like that

yes i agree but if other schools know that it is just verbal they wont get rid of him as a prospect... theres still alot of time before he can actually commit... i think he needs to get alot stronger if he wants to play d1 hockey
