the lourdes game was leivermann's first game back after the suspension, he was playing but rusty..

West was missing two good hockey players in Deopere and Bruggeman.

What great hockey that was this weekend. Besides the south/mayo game it was down to the wire. South definitely is far better than any team in the section. I agree AL did not come to play this game against West. West was fast and maintained good discipline throughout the game. I have also heard that West has a problem with being a little cocky and plays undisciplined at times throughout this year. The only thing I seen was when Lievermann scored he intentionally skated byAL student fan base and reeled his fist at them. Probably shouldn't have done that but oh well. Small issue "yes" but I would probably guess it wasn't even addressed by West coach. They might want to tone that down as it might not be tollerated by the refs at the Excel. To many reputable teams up there to be doing that and thinking you can get away with it. I think Lourdes wins 3-2 this thursday. Hard to keep up with there depth.

From the NP/Lourdes game, Lourdes mostly ran 2 lines it seemed. Compared to the West/AL game, West ran 3 lines for a big part of the game.

muddyhelmet, if you would have heard what the AL fans were saying to Lievermann i bet you would have done the same thing. When people were saying he is overrated and saying that he sucks, i would probably do the same thing.

Sometimes it's best to just let your ability and skills do the talking. That's usually the best way to get the opposing fans to shut up.

HockeyDad, you saw the Lourdes NP game, how do you see the championship going?

I've seen Lourdes play twice in the last month and have been impressed. I only saw west once, and that was in November. There were very impressive.

If they can get the pressure on Lourdes right from the start and jump to an early lead, I think it will be West's night. Talking to someone from Lourdes during the first game, they say Scudamore has his up and down days. West's goalie was very impressive in the game vs. New Prague, shutting down a 5-on-3 for about three straight minutes.

Speaking of 5-on-3's, West needs to be be disciplined in this game and not take the stupid penalties they have been taking this year (according to posters on the board

If Lourdes can dictate the tempo and neutralize West's speed, of if West spends too much time in the box, then the Eagles should win.

my guess, West 4, Lourdes 2.

But what do I know, I used to be a basketball coach.

A nice little change in topic here...now that a lot of you have seen some of the team's in section 1 play lets hear your guys All-Section Team.

Reason Mankato West will win this game
1. Tyler Bruggeman- I don't care what people say about their weak schedule. Here is a stat line for you: 22 games played, 521 saves, .929 save % (I don't care what your schedule is that's impressive!)

2. Ricky Litchfield- Leading scorer in the state. Fast, great passer, and can bury the puck when given the opportunity

3. Corey Leivermann- Plays big in big games (hat trick vs AL in West's 3-2 win) Good speed, good passer, and great goal scorer

4. 2nd and 3rd lines- Very underrated on this team. They scored the first two goals of the game against AL in the section game and set the tone for West

How's that assesment?

I couldnt agree with you more Lets Play Hockey. This one is going be Mankato West all the Way. I think they have not been given enough credit lately. They are playing as good as anyone in the State. I also think at the State Tournament they will surprise some people.

I have seen a lot of hockey games and I have seen hundreds of players go by the opposing crowd and celebrate and pump there fist, big deal. I will guarentee that no ref will give them a penalty for that.

I agree, why does everyone get so offended with Leivermann and West celebrating. Most are seniors near the end of the one of the greatest parts of their lives. They're kids. Let them live up every minute of it. I'm sure celebrating with no cockyness and more humbleness is more classy and all that crap about being more respectful to the game of hockey. All those kids have a great respect for the sport and love every moment of it. Every game could be their last. Let them have fun. It's not hurting anyone. Most of the time they probably do it to get a rise out of all you fans anyway  and it's obviously working

lets put an end to this bashing west now! they won and are a dam good team! its part of high school and hockey for that matter to celebrate. it adds excitement and during playoffs, when a kid is gettting ripped into, im surprised he didnt do more then pump his fist! i mean are the gophers undisciplined when they flick their jersey at an opposing crowd? didnt think so. you people just need to get over it and let the kids do their thing. litchfield is a hell of a player and if he ever wants some celebration advice, hit me up ill give you some good one! GO WEST!!!!

I have to agree. When I see them celebrating and getting a rise out of the opposing crowd, I get stoked. I would like to see a little "bull ride" or "duck hunter" when we go to the X. Of course I won't be complaining with the plain old slamming the glass and hog pile. West seems to win games when they are into the game like this.....or maybe they are taking the other team out of the game???

Well cheese I am not in total agreement on your assessment with the extent of of the celebration. Now your reference to the gophers is night and day when speaking of High School hockey. I have nothing against West and agree that they are a fabulous hockey team. However when they are going to possibly represent the section from down here I sure don't want to see Leivermann sitting in the penalty box on a misconduct call for being foolish with his celebrations. That could definitely be the difference in the game when you are in the state tournament. West or Lourdes will have all they can handle with other teams that are disciplined and know what it takes to win games and continue thru the tournament. And if Lievermann can't handle criticism and resorts to that behavior as his defense instead of what he does on the ice then there are other problems. In this state there are alot of GREAT hockey players and from day to day are compared to each other with ability and how they conduct themselves on the ice. If West wins I hope they can go deep into the touney and represent well, but they must keep focused on what they have to do and what they cant do.

West

Some perspective.

In 2004-2005, Lieverman and Litchfield were the leading scorers on West; they were freshmen. Litchfield scored 27 goals that season. They were 8-17-1, and they got beat 11-2 by Albert Lea and 9-0 by Century.

These guys have been playing together on varsity for ages. They've taken some serious beatings over the years. This must feel good.

Going off the Big Nine web site out of St. Mary's, I get:

Lieverman at 206 points
Litchfield at 190

Any way you slice it, these guys have had great high school careers.

Honorable mention:

Ryan Anderson has been there all four years, too, and has scored 119 points by my quick calculation.

Here are the real numbers: No offense goaler.
Freshman-Sophmore-Junior-Senior

Ricky Litchfield-41-30-56-95-222
Corey Leiverman-30-40-58-78-206
Ryan Anderson-10-27-45-54-136

Not bad gentleman! Good luck tomorrow!
