Hmm...well, the most obvious ones are the people from The Other Place who just come on here to insult people, as they do from time to time. And the grudges some people nurse against anonymous screen names can get ridiculous. I think the Youth forum is actually worse on that front than the HS forum.

One of the more interesting ones was a person who asked to be banned, and have all his posts deleted. I wonder what tracks he was trying to cover???

And I am flagrantly violating our rule about no mod policy discussion on the forum...but somehow I don't think that's a problem if it only has three people reading the thread.

But in all honesty, I use the ban control very infrequently. I do more deletion; that usually gets the point across, especially if it's someone who's been around for a little bit. I'm still learning to anticipate when things will get out of control...Lee has a knack for that. And when we do have controversial topics (the best example being the Sager near-firing last spring), I watch the those threads VERY carefully.

 Yeah, I did. (After I'd seen that they'd read the message.)

Goldfishdude was actually invaluable during the Sager crisis; he was bombarding me with PMs that told me everything he knew. He may hate Sager, but he knows they have to go through due process to get rid of him. That's more than we can say about a lot of people involved in that. Goldy was just so displeased with the end result that he's kept away most of this year since that.

Youth parents are nuts. The AAA summer programs all have their little partisans and can't stand the others. As Lee once told me, Bernie McBain is more controversial than Mike Randolph! I feel sorry for a lot of the kids...

Goldfish does hold truth though... IMO Sager has brought that organization down. Ever since Butters left and he (Sager) took the wheel, the Bears have had a roller coaster ride. In addition, it doesn't help the youth program has taken a beating as well; never the less, coaching has hurt the Bears. You could almost compare the Bears to the Gophers in some aspects...

I too feel sorry for some of the kids as well. When I was young and in the youth program, I noticed a lot of "crazy" parents. I won't name which parents are the worst but I will say this... they ruined the game for the other parents/observers and their children/the team. Some parents live behind their children; this is because they have self esteem issues or are just that intense. No, not all passionate parents are like that; however, the ones that are nuts really need a reality check. Shut up and enjoy the game.

While I think some people like to overblow Sager's role in WBL's decline, Goldy and friends certainly do have some good stuff to back their case up. And then there are some allegations that are probably true but hard to substantiate, and some that probably aren't true but could be...it's messy, and I don't want to say too much publicly, but there's no doubt it's torn that program apart, and that isn't a good thing no matter how you spin it.

I think I have learned more about parenting (and the type of parent I wouldn't want to be) from this forum than I ever could from any book or course or whatever.

You're spot on, Karl. There are many allegations and accusations being pointed at Sager; it's almost like a witch hunt. However, Gold and others do have plausible points. The thing is I do know some people that just besmirch Sager character just because and use him as a scape goat. Like what you said, it is a messy situation. I just want the program to become what it was again and bring some pride back.

I've filled in Karl on quite a few of them (the nut jobs).

The most interesting one I had started summer before last. A hockey parent was attacking his son's coach. I PM'ed him, advising that was basically stupid, matter of time before the coach (who knows much about this forum) figures out who he is, etc.

So the guy asks me to delete his membership...I figured, sure, why not? Banned him, his email address, his IP. Problem solved, right?

Couple months later, he emails me and Mitch asking how he can get back onto the Forum.

I tell Mitch this guy won't last long, we reinstate him. He lasts two months. Goes whacko after a game because he didn't like how the assists were handed out. I ban his sorry butt.

He emails me apologizing, saying he was caught up in the heat of the moment, blah blah blah.

Sends another email less than an hour later, turning a complete 180. (or would that be a 360 ala Linda Blair?) Tells me to "grow some hair", whatever the hell that means, etc etc etc.

So I block his email address, ban his whole damn company (I knew where he was posting from and that he was posting from work), and my life got easier.

That's just one example.

The Youth Forum? Three years ago it was the kids causing problems on that Forum. At one point I believe Mitch was considering taking the whole forum down. Nowadays it's the parents. At least the kids could use their youth as an excuse.

It's 1 a.m. Do you guys ever sleep? :)

No, I am on here a lot, Lee. Although I am "hidden" to everyone on the forum; I bet mods like you, Karl, and Mitch can see who is currently browsing, regardless if they are hidden users.

And that's funny Mitch was contemplating closing the Youth forum because of the kids. I bet they still hype themselves up on here. I see it from time to time' it's so annoying.. And I am not surprised by the parents. IMO they are the worse.

Sleep? What's that? Remember, I'm in college...

The parent Lee mentioned was a personal favorite of mine, too. He enjoyed PMing me random, bizarre questions from time to time.

I think the Youth forum has gotten better in that they now discuss meaningful things sometimes, but some of the summer programs seem so cultish. Everyone has a strong opinion on them.

I get a good laugh out of the people trying to pump themselves up. They could at least be subtle about it...
