River Lakes has always played Alex tougher than nails.
This just dropped Alex from #1 to #3 in goski's rankings.

Let's just say that the Alex coach is a Class Act and leave it at that.

Pretty cryptic comment about Alex's coach and now that just raises my curiosity how the game went or what that meant.
Anyway, good for the Stars and proves the theory of you never know how the puck will bounce which of course is why they play the game.

my take on it is that river lakes played them tough. sure, alex should have won, countless number of pipes were hit by alex throughout the game.. about 2 open netters missed, bad calls ( which on one set of them, river lakes tied it up on the PP)... but, it was an exciting game and you gotta like those i suppose. things just didnt bounce in alex's favor..

Thanks for the overview!
As I said before why they play the game!!
Good Luck to both teams as the regular season ends and the "new season" begins!!

ya no prob. i still think alex deserves to be ranked second in the state. I think if the Lets play hockey voters knew the scenario of the game, their opinions of this loss would be swayed.. but oh well, cant always win all of them.

You know what the rankings of LPH do not really matter.
I am expecting Alex Lady Cards to barrel through their section and play very competitively at State. Just my prediction!

SportsMa, I didn't intend to be cryptic. I apologize.
I agree that the Lady Cards have an excellent opportunity to do well at State. This will be their fourth appearance in as many years.

Thanks, pondhockey. No apology needed though.
The difficulties with reading things without conversastion....so I was not sure if you were sarcastic or serious at the time.

I agree with pondhockey..the Alex coach is a Class Act, he and his assistant coaches do a lot for their team...I watch the River Lakes game and it was just an off night for Alex..all the bounces went the other way and River Lakes played very well

I don't quite understand how Alex and Hibbing can be ranked ahead of
Crookston, when Crookston beat both teams head to head??
Plus, Crookston plays alot tougher schedule than Alex?
Someone please enlighten me on this.......

I wouyldn't say Crookston schedule is all that tougher than Alex's...I would agree that it is a little stronger. One thing about Alex, they beat Bemidji and Crookston didn't...the head to head match up was in December

You better look again. Crookston's schedule is a lot stronger than Alex's schedule. Not sure HOW you think Alex should be ranked ahead of Crookston after losing to the River Lake Stars? It doesn't matter WHEN they played, the fact is that Crookston still beat Alex on their own sheet of ice!

Soon heading into play-offs and the LPH rankings do not really matter but the section rankings do in who plays who.
The play-off season begins and every win or loss does matter.
Good Luck to all the teams!

I agree. Throw out all the rankings, records and head to head play. You lose now and you go home.

crookston won in overtime after being down the majority of the game. i could see you havin an argument if it would have been a blowout. i said, i still think alex should be number 2 if everyone knew the "scenario" of the river lakes game. and what makes you think crookston should be so high after dropping 3 games in about a two week span. that has to factor into it somehow

Doesn't matter if they were ahead or lost in O.T.
The fact remains that they lost to Crookston.
Alex has only played Crookston, Bemidji and Moorhead. That's only 3 tough teams out of their entire schedule.
Crookston has played Roseau twice, Warroad twice, Grand Rapids, Hibbing, Alexandria, Bemidji, Moorhead and the North Metro Stars (who aren't to shabby).
Crookston has lost 3 games to ranked teams. Alex loses to River Lakes.
What is River Lakes ranked at? Last I saw they were 45th on the QRF rankings.

alex played crookston, moorhead(beat them 5-2, i believe crookston barely won that game against moorhead), bemidji(alex also beat them 5-2, and didnt crookston end up with a tie against bemidji, st. cloud tech isnt all that bad of a team either just to let you know, which alex beat twice..... alex beat faribault(top 20 in the state) and moundwestonka(top 20 in the state) ... so ill agree with you by saying that crookstons schedule is tougher, but not by much. alex has beat the better teams(moorhead and bemidji) more convincingly.. so everyone has to take that into consideration..

while i do agree that alex has beat tough teams by a margin of goals, and that they do have some remrkable players, one of which is a goalie. And for crookston to beat ranked teams even by a few goals is saying something b/c they probably block more shots than any team in the state to keep the puck away from their rookie goalies. And although alex lost to crookston in a tight one, crookston has lost some crucial games, and it may be a good thing to see themselves drop in the rankings. So do i think alex should be second in state?? Probably not but them again who else has been winning to take them out of that spot?? Crookston is a great team and probably should at least be in the top three, but once playoffs start rankings mean diddly squat!
