After the game against these two teams last time what do you think will happen? I have Mayo winning 4-2. I do so because they are somewhat starting to play fairly decent hockey. After coming off the win against Fairbault Thursday and after the hopeful win against Owatonna on Tuesday i think they'll go in pumped up and take the season split.
The game is being played Thursday February 8 7:30 at Graham West

Mayo Should come out top in this game 4-1 when JM beat mayo the first time it was a fluke in my eyes. JM needs to play like they did against century to win this game.

Mayo seems to be playing better as of later and the last time they played JM I thought they looked like a team in slow emotion and they lacked intensity.
Pirius will probably play well and keep it close. Mayo 3 JM 1

Gophs21 - Don't you mean you know he is out because you are on the team? My guess is because of the way you phrased your first post about hopeful win tomorrow night and some of your other posts.
Oh, and why did you change your prediction in the score?

and if you were to look at other posts you would see the times that I send the posts some are around 3-4 pm. The team practice until about 4:30-5. Nice try though. I love how people say things like... yeah you should know, you're on the team. I mean seriously grow up.

Too Bad to hear about sackett. He is a hard nosed forward and usually plays very well in Cross town rivalry games.

I realize this game was won by JM 2-1. Can anyone tell me how the game went? Who scored? A lot of penalties? How the goalies played?

Game summary -
Officiating - poor and inconsistent. I don't know names but the one guy is from Austin and normally does an ok guy. The shorter guy with the little fuzz patch below his lip is terrible.
The first five penalties called were on Mayo, then Grosso barked at them refs and the next few were on JM. Blatant penalties were not called and some weak ones were called.
1st period - no scoring...decent period, but not overly intense
2nd period - JM scored on the PP but only because the Mayo defense played the puck weakly in the neutral zone. Great pace with good hitting and high intensity
3rd period - Mayo tied the game on a set play off a faceoff...banged it off the wall and Thauwald got the puck at the red line and buried it low stick side. Then Mayo's def screwed up again getting caught up too far and Weisner scored on a breakaway.
The Spartans put on tremendous pressure and had flurries galore but could not score...partially because of Pirius but also they seem to not have any scoring touch in front.
Tom Alexander had a break and he hit the goalie but they called slashing...could have called tripping too....or a good no call in this type of game. He slammed his stick and got a stupid misconduct penalty.
Then with about 2-3 minutes left it looked like Mayo tied when Matt Alexander batted a puck out of the air...Pirius caught it but his glove might have been in the net. Refs ruled no goal. Mayo pulled their goalie but could not tie it.
Bottom line is both teams played with a ton of heart and intensity the last two periods and either team could have won. Donohue and Pirius were the stars of the game.

SEMinnHockeyNut, how many total penalties were called in that game and how many dumb penalties did they call?

I don't know for sure...I went to the PB Online and they don't even have a boxscore....it is just a JV paper. I mean c'mon a Mayo/JM game and you don't even have a boxscore?
My guess is that it was about 10 penalties for Mayo and about 6-7 for JM.
My point was how inconsistent the calls were....Mayo got the first five, then after the refs got chewed they called a bunch in a row on JM. They missed obvious tripping calls on both teams and hookings, then called weak ones like the boarding call on Hurley of Mayo. The guy had 4 inches and 30 pounds on Hurley and was AGAINST the boards when he got checked. That is not boarding, it is called body checking.
At one point Mayo had too many men on the ice for like 5 seconds and they missed that as well. I guess when you have average teams like the Big Nine, you bet below average refs alot.

Why are you bringing something back from 3 weeks ago that means nothing now?
