This weekend (March 9-11) the WCHA Regular Season Champion University of Minnesota-Twin Cities Golden Gophers will play host to the tenth-placed University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves in the first round of the 2007 WCHA Playoffs at Mariucci Arena. The Golden Gophers enter the playoffs at 26-8-3 Overall and 18-7-3 in the WCHA while the Seawolves are 12-19-3 Overall and 8-19-1 in the WCHA. The two teams met two times during the regular season in Anchorage with Minnesota-Twin Cities winning both games by the scores of 8-2 and 2-1 respectively. The winner of the three game series will advance to the 2007 Red Baron WCHA Final Five March 15-17 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Thoughts or predicitions on this series and who will advance?

The Gophers have been struggling but Anchorage has been flat out awful in the 2nd half. Gophers sweep, they're better in every department.

I think the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities will be moving on the X. I am going to pick a Golden Gophers sweep, they are far more talented than the Seawolves and playing in Mariucci during the playoffs is virtually a death sentence.

I'd like to know who those two people are who've voted for the Seapups so far

. Gophers, as much as they've struggled as of late, sweep easily in two.

I see the gophers winning easily too. Way more talent. But anything can happen. it is the playoffs.

Struggling, but not bad enough for the Alaska.
Alaska will probly pack for the week and would love nothing better than to vacation in St. Paul.
Could it be another embarrassing 3 - 4 (L) (ot)? Donny won’t let it, would he? no way, that is the go button.
Fri, Mar 24 2006 Holy Cross 4 - at Grand Forks, N.D. OUCH!

I enjoy rooting for a program where a tourney loss is a shocker rather than an expectation.

Ok its all in fun.
I know Crookston changed their name from trojans to Golden Eagles. Did any of the rest of the UM campuses change their names to Golden Something? I don't think anyone has ever said Golden Bulldogs

What a shocker!!! Who honestly saw this one coming?!!??!
A WCHA Final Five at the Xcel Energy Center with no Gophers??? Gotta say that would be AWESOME!!! Then throw in how about no Huskies or Tigers????

Thanks for cursing the gophers! The U of M continues to play subpar hockey when tournament time arrives. This team has way too much talent to risk losing a #1 seed in the big dance by being knocked out of the WCHA tourney by a #10 seed.

The Gophs just can't put a full 60 minutes together right now. There were points last night where they completely dominated the Seawolves, but near the end of the game the Seawolves controlled the play and it appeared the Gophers had stopped moving their feet. Minnesota needs to start playing for 60 minutes if they want to do anything in the Final 5 (should they make it) or the NCAA tournament. Game 3 tonight, if they don't come out with a little fire it will make for another long night as AA doesn't want their season to end.
