This coming weekend March 17-18 the U16 Icecats team will travel to Faribault to play three scrimmage games against Shattack-St. Mary's U16 team, plus another one Tuesday night at Burnsville Arena.

So who are the AAA teams this summer? Rockets folded I heard. MN Wild is only U16 and U19, don't know what happend to U12 and U14.

Are there any new teams forming? How do their rosters look?

Northern Lights will play U16...although many of the players are U14 eligible.

Centennial and Coon Rapids have put together a U16 team to play in the Stick It To Cancer Tournament. This group has many talented skaters who most if not all have stayed together every summer for many years. Not sure what their name will be or how many other tourneys they will be playing in.

For some reason (?) Minnesota Hockey turned down Shattack St. Mary's request to play the U16 Icecats this weekend. So those games will not be played.

This Tuesday the U16 Icecats will scrimmage the U16 Minnesota Extreme - originally it was supposed to be SSM.

Is Minnesota Hockey tightening up on these games involving SSM and/or the Thoroughbreds?

The problem is that SSM is limited to a certain # of "non-USA Hockey registered" events per year - same probably goes for the U19 SSM too? The game(s) against the IC U16 probably would have pushed the SSM 16 team over this threshold. SSM 16 played/scrimmaged against HS teams this season including Simley, Park of CG, others??? - Also SSM 19 had events with EP I believe, and I would imagine all of these would count towards that magic "limit" # for each respective team...

The 92Xtreme is a pretty strong club. They are U14 eligible but will play mostly a U16 schedule.

The Saint Croix Saints and U19 Lightning joined and should be a good team. They are playing with three other Minnesota teams in a new Two Nations League with four top Canadian Teams in May and June. They are mostly eastside kids.

NW metro...Elk River, Rogers, Monti, STMA, Buffalo, Delano, Zimmerman & Cold Spring.

There is a new U19AAA Elite team based out of the Super Rink. Schwan's is the sponsor. Nickname is the "Blues." They did a U16 team last year and are again this year too.

I should also note that I believe there are 3 "Walser" teams playing U19 this year? I'm guessing a "Red," a "White," and a "Blue" - but just a guess...

AND - I know that there is a new AAA forming for mainly Fall of some kids that were with the IceCats and I assume this team will go out East for some events this late Summer, play the Int'l Cup, and travel for Fall too as a B&A like team? Some of the kids on this squad will skate for other AAA this Spring/Summer I hear, including a few off the SSR "Blues" U19AAA team above...

I also see from the U16 team schedule that there must be at least one Schwan's U16 AAA team this year as the Icecats scrimmages the Blue team on April 11th. Obviously a different team than the U19 team posted above. In past years they've had both a Blue and a White team at some age levels.

Thanks everyone, keep the additions coming.

It is interesting to see where teams are forming. I wonder why Walser will not do a U16, my bet is that one of their U19s must be primarily U16 age kids and will be the 'young' Walser team? Why not let them play U16 it looks like there will be enough competition there.

Yes - I believe this is right from what I've heard, but I don't know how many teams...

I think this team will go by the "Jr Whitecaps" or some name such as this...

I'm guessing that there is a U16 Walser group but they're old 16's? Maybe after a couple years they decided to move up as it seems everyone plays up an age bracket for some reason...
