The military academies have it badly because they can't recruit anyone who has any sort of a potential future beyond college playing hockey, as they will have to be in the military. Have there ever been any players that got better than anticipated and left a military academy after they had started their junior year for the NHL or some other venue?

Ummm, you just don't leave a Military academy. Besides if you went there you weren't going there as a stepping stone for a pro career, you were going there becuase you'll be getting possibly the best education in America - for free.

Once a generation there's a Roger Staubach or David Robinson, but even they served their time before becoming pro athletes.

They cerainly proved themselves as tough competitors today.

You know they're never going to be short on heart or work ethic, and that's what they showed tonight. Hats off to them for representing the first service academy tournament appearance well.

Tell that to Chris Hepp from Burnsville. He went to Air Force for a part of a semester or maybe two. Then he bailed back to juniors and will be playing for St. Cloud State in 2008.

Did anyone see that schedule that these guys work with? My god, up at 6:15 everyday and lights out at 10:30 every day. That's a schedule I probably wouldn't deal to well with.

Ah, yeah, ya do. If you want, you can leave before your junior year with no consequence. People do it all the time.

But yeah, their schedule is harsh and from people I've talked to who went to those places they drink a lot (part of the military lifestyle) once they get out because they didn't get to in college. Oh well, just different lifestyle.

Great Article I found... And there have been NHL'ers that have gone to West Point.. Hinote for example although he left after his Freshman year... ** read more about it in the article**
