Here is a good article about Fink going to North Dakota from today's Grand Forks Herald.
UND lands Hopkins center
By Brad Schlossman, Herald Staff Writer
Published Wednesday, May 16, 2007
Mike Fink's first varsity high school season began this winter with a five-goal, seven-point game.
It ended with the Hopkins (Minn.) High School sophomore getting attention from nearly every Western Collegiate Hockey Association team.
The heavy recruitment of Fink halted Monday night when the 5-foot-11, 175-pound center gave a verbal commitment to attend UND beginning in the fall of 2009.
“I had never seen the rink up there and it was amazing,” said Fink, who visited campus last Thursday with his father, Steve. “I fell in love with the coaching staff there - all three of them. I like how the campus was small and the training facilities are unbelievable.
“I also have heard that North Dakota is the best place to go if you want to be a pro.”
Fink took Minnesota state high school hockey by storm this season, scoring 31 goals and adding 23 assists for 54 points in 25 games. He was held without a point just twice, while centering the top line for the Royals.
He scored just five seconds into his first varsity shift and led his team to an 8-2 season-opening win over Minneapolis West. Fink had five goals and two assists in that game.
It's possible that he will not play at the Minnesota high school level this fall. If offered, Fink would probably join the U.S. National Team Development Program next season. Otherwise, he has an option to play with Waterloo of the United States Hockey League.
Fink said he also considered Minnesota-Duluth and Minnesota. Growing up, he was a Gopher fan.
“I was. . . . until I walked into that arena,” he said. “I'm really excited to play there.”
Toews mulls decision
Chicago Blackhawks general manager Dale Tallon was quoted in the Chicago Tribune on Tuesday night saying “we're very close” to signing UND sophomore Jonathan Toews.
Toews, however, said no decision has been made when reached at home in Winnipeg. He said he plans to sit down with his family for the first time since the college season ended and discuss whether to turn pro or come back for his junior season.
Toews said he would like to make a decision “fairly soon.”

He'll be a nice pickup for the Sioux. It seems like every year UND steals top Minnesota recruits from the Gophers

(Oshie, Lee, ect.)

Yes but the Sioux didn't get Okposo! He is the best player in the WCHA in my humble opinion.

One reason I can think of that a lot of these top players want to go there (UND) is the fantastic facility they provide, I really don't think there is anything that compares.
Once they see all that, it makes the choice a lot easier.
Plus the program is good as well.

Given the amount of D1 players that come out of the state, you can't expect the Gophers to land every good player available. It simply is not possible nor realistic.
The reality is the Gophers don't have a lot of need for 2009. They already have a great forward (Schroeder) and two very good defensive prospects (Ness and Helgeson) coming in for 2009. Given they only graduate two players after the 2008-2009 season (Justin Bostrom and RJ Anderson) and already have three guys landed, there isn't a tremendous amount of need for them to go throwing scholarships at every guy that graduates around that time.
Of course, they will protect their team by having a few guys commit for 2010 but possibly get moved up to 2009 in case of a pro departure.... but unlike a few other schools with lots of need in 2009, the Gophers can be more patient if they wish to be. They already have plenty of talent in the tank before that season as it is.
