The news is very recent, I just found out last night. Congrats to Reid.

It is a full ride starting in the 07-08 school year. Chalk another one up for the northland.

It's a few weeks old, but a congratualtions is in order. It's nice to see another CEC player going to Northern Michigan. It's a nice program run by a very classy coach. Congrats Reid and it's very good to hear you do not have to play for the Steel next year!

It sounds like Ben Leis had his rights released also. Possibly two area goalies making their choices now.

Ben is a good goalie, he'll find somewhere to play.

What conference does Northern Michigan play in? Any other details about the team?

Did Ellingson garner interest from any top WCHA teams such as the Gophers, Sioux, Badgers, CC, SCSU, UMD, ect. It seems like he's a solid goalie and I thought since the Gophers seem to need a goalie that they would try to recruit him.

Well who do they have? Briggs graduated, and Frazee is very streaky and lets in to many soft goals. Do they have any big recruits coming in?

We have been through this about Reid before. His timing just isn't right for most WCHA teams.

As EREmpireStrikesBack said, Kangas will be stepping in next year and he is a very good goalie. He is older and got a lot of USHL experience. The only bad part of this past year is he played on a team where defense was not a strong point. So his numbers on paper did not look as good as the prior year. But he and Frazee should make for a very good tandem next year for the Gophers.

The question is what will happen with Frazee after this next season and whether he will stay for his senior year or move on to the pro level. After all, he was a 2nd round pick and New Jersey (or Frazee himself) may feel three years in college is enough. I guess we'll see.

Exactly. He made a smart move and went where he was wanted/needed badly and didn't wait around for nothing to happen.

you need to get the frazee love fest over because he is terrible, costed the gophers a couple of really big games, and really isn't D1 caliber, but he's there so what are you going do. besides this board isn't about frazee and the gophers, its a about Reid and the fact that he is getting the Opportunity to play D1 hockey, so stick to it.

Were you criticizing Frazee after he stepped in for the USA Team for Worlds this past winter and saved their bacon after Zatkoff from Miami-Ohio played poorly early on? The USA team may not have won the gold medal but they never would have contended for any medal if it hadn't been for Frazee's performance.

While Frazee has certainly had his off games (like any goalie will), he also had a 2.35 GAA and a save percentage over 90%. Those aren't horrible numbers. Very solid D1 numbers.

To say he isn't D1 caliber is beyond ludicrous. Especially considering the Devils drafted him in the second round of the 2005 draft. A goalie that isn't D1 caliber certainly wouldn't have been picked that high.

gopher 5 brought up the thing about frazee not me and then gopherblog started in about frazee, im sorry but the kid is very streaky between the pipes and yes many goalies do have bad games but they dont consistantly let in poor goals like frazee. as for costed games. look at the 8-7 stcloud st game that blew the gophers chance at a wcha final five title his freshmen year. and need i say that national tourny this year against UND, his stints against UMD, and many more throughout his short career. need i bring up the 180 foot goal. there is NO REASON why that puck should have gone in. Horrible. and the kid will never ever play in the NHL, second round or not there were a ton of other higher rated goalie that year.

Once again i stated something about the posts by gopher5 and gopherblog about how frazee wasn't the topic here, and while i did add to it. this blog is about Reid a very good goalie who right now would be a safer bet between the pipes then frazee any day
