Your predictions: what goalies, defensemen & forwards will get an invite to play at NTDP after the Advance Festivals? Or, do you think no one from these lists will be asked to go to Ann Arbor?

For your convenience, I have provided links to the 16 and 17 lists.

Personally, from the Advance 17 list I think Fink and Ness will get invites.

Although, I have heard NTDP likes D larger than Ness.

For you Ness fans, I am not suggesting he can't play at that level. NTDP coaches may not see him as a fit because of his size. However, I still predict he will get an invite.

Danny Mattson (from the 17 list), a tenth grader may get an invite as well.

Next year's U-18 team is already set. Very unlikely that anyone else will get the call at this point. Yhe U-17 team still has a few forward spots to fill.

Some on the 17s are 10th graders and would qualify. Fink and Mattson would be examples of that.

The players on next year's NTDP U-18 team are '90 birthdates, which are the players that will be at this summer's Select 17 Festival. The NTDP U-17 team will be made up of '91 birthdates, which will be at the Select 16 Festival. It has nothing to do with what grade they are in, it is strictly by what year they are born in.

Thanks.

Is there a website that lists the players that have been selected for both teams?

This is from the college commitment board. It doesn't separate the players by which team they will be on, but instead separates by what grade they will be in. Most of they players should have their birthdate listed. '90s should be on this year's U-18 team, '91s should be on the U-17 team. The one exception might be goalie Adam Murray, who was an underage player on this past year's U-17 team.

i do not believe that the U18 team is set. I think that they still need 1 or 2 more forwards, and maybe 1 more D.

If you are correct, it looks like they carry 7 D.

Given the lack of great reviews on the performance of most of the MN guys that were at the tryouts earlier this year, I am not overly optimistic about much more being added from MN.

You can only get by on prior reputation for so long before that won't cut the mustard. Especially when other players out there are developing and catching up on the early bloomers.

Don't be surprised if one MN player from "out of left field" gets asked for the U17.... although it is early on that one and he'll have to prove himself like anybody else. But he apparently caught some positive attention at the 51s in Plymouth.

Thanks for the insight.

I wonder if those that tried out didn't impress, did they pick the right guys to go?

I am guessing you know who the "out of left field" kid is.

Is that Red & Black, or Cardinal Red & Black?

Hmmm... a riddle?

Let's take a look at the list, shall we?

Alexandria
Cenntenial
Eden Prarie
Elk River
Monticello/Annandale/Maple Lake
River Lakes
Rochester John Marshall
Shakopee
St. Paul Senators
Stillwater
Worthington

Now cross reference that with the Advanced 51 participants, and your candidates are...

F - Chad Hennum (Elk River)
D - Nick Leddy (Eden Prarie)
F - Matt Johnson (Stillwater)
D - Blake Thompson (Eden Prairie)
F - Tyler Pitlick (Centennial)

Since the USNTDP has plenty of defensemen, and Tyler Pitlick wouldn't be "out of left field", we're left with Hennum and Johnson, both of whom were chosen for the National Select 16 Camp. Reports say Johnson was very impressive, so I'll take him as my guess.

Hopefully, Tyler Kieffer can do a little convincing and he'll be wearing the same colors for his college team!

That would make sense since Phil Housley (His High School Coach) has so much pull with USA hockey.

I don't think it's too far off, if that's what it's representing. My original question to Iceburg was if he was referring to red and black or if it could be a different variation of red and black (i.e. Cardinal Red).

My opinion, if it is Matt Johnson it would be a good choice. He doesn't get much ink in this forum (doesen't matter). He is a hard working quality player. Mr. Housley could help his chances. But, Matt will have earned what he might get.

FYI, many of the buzz names are just that.

I agree, Matt Johnson (Stillwater) would definitely be a good pick for the NTDP but I believe Blake Thompson (Eden Prairie) is that "diamond in the rough" that has the potential to develop into a very consistent, solid player and may be the ideal playter for our US "Development" Program. Include Matt Johnson along with Nick Mattson (Chaska) and Blake Thompsom, a big, smart and mobile defenseman with the other 17's selected from around the country and it would be a good mix of talent, skill, solid goaltending and toughness that a team needs to succeed at any level.
