State’s top goalies set for MN Hockey’s Advanced Camp

Forty-eight of the state’s best 15-to-18 year-old goalies will be participating in Minnesota Hockey’s Dave Peterson Advanced Goalie Camp, July 26-29, at the Schwan SuperRink/National Sports Center complex in Blaine.

“We have a tremendously talented group of goalies this year and are really looking forward to the camp,” said Steve Carroll, Minnesota Hockey’s goalie coach-in-chief, who is camp director. “The participants will have a unique opportunity to learn from our state’s best college and high school goalie coaches. We’re confident they’ll be able to take the techniques they learn at the camp, incorporate them into their style of play and ultimately take their game to a new level,” he said.

This list absolutely blows. Some of these goalies have not even proved themselves. Owen Collete are you joking! He played one game against HM and they lost! Come on what are these people thinking. There are also a whole lot more on the list that shouldn't be there.

heybuddy, believe me, all of the top goalies get invited. It is up to them to choose whether they want to go. This is no free camp and it still comes dowm to what you want to spend your money on. Probably one of the best goalie camps that you don't hear much about is The Goalie Clubs Prodigy camp

It's correct that all of the top high school eligible goalies in the state get invited to this camp, however many decline for varying reasons, thus the openings available for others they include on their invitation list. More recently the camp has stepped up to bringing in more 'today' coaching staff to avoid earlier issues with dated techniques (IM0). I am not sure I would call it the best goalie camp in the area, however I am certain it is improving each year with the help of some of Stauber's staff who I believe assisted more heavily last year.

Any time you can get your goalie into a position specific camp, try to do it. IMO, the two best goaltender schools/camps in Minnesota are Staubers Goal Crease (individual sessions offered year round too) and GDI which holds its Minnesota camp at Shattuck St. Mary's in Faribault. This camp is a very intense one week camp. I would highly recommend it to the goaltender who is serious about the position and enjoys being a student of the game. This camp is not for the faint hearted. Check out their websites. Both entities I mentioned have level specific camps which too is very important for proper training of your tender. Good luck to all you goalies!

So who picks who goes to this? This Dave Peterson guy? It's not like he can watch everybody play on that list.

I'm guessing Dave does have his eye on every goalie. Dave Peterson passed away several years ago you dumb---. That is why the camp is named in honor him.

Probably a little harsh. I am just tired of people that have no idea what they are talking about when it comes to this stuff
Like hockeytimetonight who says their is only one big name on this.
Lets see
You have Brady Hjelle who has committed to UMD
Mike Lee who backstopped his team to the AA title last year as a sophomore and had a 95+% save percentage
7 or 8 kids that participated in the Advanced 16 festival.
Like I said earlier, every goalie that participated in the advanced 15,16 and 17 festivals were invited. That is 56 goalies right there and that does not include the female goalies. There are many options or conflicts for the goalies who have and have not decided to go to this.

Owen Collette

heybuddy: you have obviously never played against Owen Collette before... he is one of the top goalies and he will have a lot to show now that he is back from his hip injury. I have played with him for many years in WBL and he is a great goalie.

Well davey, this isn't the girls MN hockey forum so if you want to talk about them you are in the wrong place. I am sure there were good girls goalies though. Kids that play in the Advanced festivals are goog goaltenders but they aren't the Brady Hjelles of high school hockey in minnesota right now. So besides Hjelle, who has a D1 committment or has there rights held by a USHL team or something like that?

Hockeytime, what is your point. If they ran a camp for only kids that were D1 committed or had their rights held by a USHL team, how many kids would be there. Tell me that. A couple every year. Also, aren"t camps run so that kids improve. (I know I will get somebody telling me that "No, camps are run to make somebody money")
My original point is that the goalies at the Advanced festivals are the best goalies in the state at their respective age groups. They all get invited...even the girls smart... and they then have to make the decision if they want to attend this camp. The camp is limited in the number of spaces so if they don't fill it with the original invitations, others get invited.

I just don't think that the states top goalies are there and Hjelle is the only big name goalie, I just want to know if there is any other big name goalies for high school. But it seems there isn't. Thats just my opinion.

Michael Lee - Roseau. Shut out Moorhead in section 8 final and won state AA championship and made all tournament team as a sophomore. IMO he is one of the state's top goalies and he is there.
