Hopkins’ 1st Summer Hockey Festival
touts several powerhouse programs

Hopkins High School is thrilled to be hosting its inaugural Summer Hockey Festival, which includes some of the biggest and most respected programs in Minnesota hockey. Three of the eight teams won or shared their respective conference championships last season.
Joining the Royals in the Class AA field for the weekend of July 28-29 at the Minnetonka ice arena are:
Blaine: 22-8 last season and 16-2 for a co-championship in the Northwest Suburban Conference on the way to a State Tournament appearance.
Buffalo: 13-10-4 overall and 8-1-3 for first place in the Mississippi 8 Conference.
Centennial: 20-7 overall and 16-2 in the Northwest Suburban, tying Blaine for first. Centennial's playoff run ended at the hands of Hill-Murray.
Eden Prairie: 18-8-2 overall and 15-4-1 for the Lake Conference title. The Eagles lost to Edina in the Section Final.
Minnetonka: 16-6-4 overall and 5-1-2 in the Classic Lake, second behind Edina in the traditionally challenging conference.
Rosemount: 12-14-1 overall and 11-8-1 in the Lake Conference. Highlights included victories over Eden Prairie and Burnsville,
Wayzata: 9-16-1 overall and 3-4-1 in the Classic Lake. The Trojans lost six games by 1 goal.
Host Hopkins had one of its best seasons in recent memory, rising above .500 to finish 12-11-3 before being eliminated in the playoffs by Eden Prairie.
Each Festival participant plays two games July 28 and two July 29 in a two-pool format.
The host Royals come out of the chute drawing a challenging opponent, Eden Prairie, Saturday at 8 a.m. in the Black Pool. Buffalo and Centennial are also in the Black Pool.
The July 28 lineup also includes a Blue Pool matchup of Classic Lake rivals Minnetonka and Wayzata (11:30 a.m.). Rosemount and Blaine round out the Blue Pool.
Just since 2000, this field claims two state champions (Blaine in 2000; Centennial in 2004) and a combined 19 State Tournament appearances, with Blaine leading the way (6).

Looks like some good teams in this one. Should be fun!

should be fun...wonder why some STP tourneys charge you $15 Bucks and others dont?

We're want as many people as possible to come and see these teams. We're thinking more long-term about generating interest in Hopkins hockey and creating enthusiasm in the younger levels.

We hope to see many people anxious to get out of the summer sauna weather.

Buffalo charged and raised 3k for the Boosters...that money will be spent on the team over the course of the season....or at least that's the way it is suppose to work.

Anyone know what happened in this tournament. Some pretty good teams here but no results listed........ a little help here please! Who looked good?

Blaine and Centennial in Championship....

Blaine Won the tourney beating Rosemount 5-3, Wayzata 6-1, Minnetonka 6-1 and in the championship beating Centennial 5-0.

I don't think Blaine had all there top guys, possibly missing a key D man and I believe the goalie that played most of the weeking was just a sophomore?

All in all, it was a good weekend of summer hockey and other teams that looked good were Minnetonka.

Thanks for the info so far....it looks like both blaine and centennial both had teams here and SLP tourney. How did they split them up? It sounds like Blaine didn't have all of their players here and maybe not Centennial? Looks like the Bengals could be tough next season based on some of the scores I saw.

Bengals should be tough this year. Centennial should be up there as well. Both should be top ten teams in my opinion.
