Came across a Penguins roster and it looks like heading into camp, Alex will be given every opportunity to make the team. The team released several players a few days ago, and he's still there. He's currently wearing # 98. Good luck to Golly and if anyone comes across any news on him, please post it here.

Once the grhshockey website is back up we should have info on there. He is one of the players we plan to follow in the ulumni update this year. Along with Jared Smith, Tony Clafton, Patrick White, Joe Stejskal, Steven Wagner, and Grant Clafton

I do wonder where you found that though...he is not listed on the Penguins roster on their website.

I'd be curious as well. The only indicator about his camp status I saw was this, and it says he's out of contact work until 10/1 because of a shoulder which would have to make it awfully difficult for him to make the club I think. Maybe there's something else out there I'm missing.

I hope he doesn't wear #98, we all know the results of that number. (Brian Lawton)

Alex was a great college player. Isn't # 98 a bit pretentious for an NHL rook???

I am a big fan of his game as a college player. I have noted that on the college thread. Usually the higher numbers have been taken by more ballyhooed players than Alex. Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby, Eric Lindros come to mind.

I hope he makes it to the big leagues and does a great job. I wish him great success.

That is not Alex's dad. And there are many VERY good players who wear low numbers. There are many average players or slightly above who wear high numbers. Do I need to give examples?

Since you seem to be jumping to the defense of your fellow GR compatriot, yes there are a lot of VERY good players that go with lower numbers because they probably feel they don't have to express their egos. Or, they feel a certain loyalty/luck (hockey people seem to be superstitious) to a number that they may have grown up with.

Didn't higher numbers start with the "Great One"? Ya, I know the number 9 turned to 99 deal. Didn't Mario follow suit? Eric Lindros? Sidney Crosby? Plus a lot of wantabees - to your point - average players.

As I have stated, Alex is a very nice player. I hope he becomes the next Phil Housley. My point is one of observation and opinion. It's ok that my opinion differs from yours.

First of all, you can navigate all over that site without paying a penny. Second off all, you can have your own opinion, but it isn't fair for your personal attack of a good, smart "bored" member. It is different with mouthrunner types, but not people who do only good for the "bored" or have no impact at all.

First of all, the Alex topic probably belongs on another forum, correct? He is now beyond high school, college and is a pro now.

2nd, maybe I took it wrong. However, I felt a personal attack was on my questioning of a number choice. G.R. seemed to get a bit defensive. I did not intend on putting down Alex. I questioned his number choice.............not a big deal. I even thanked GR for his offering of the link.

I agree with breakout, wearing a high number is usually something reserved for seasoned veterans or franchise players. Hopefully if he makes the squad they will give him a number than won't make him a target.

Yes, actually it does. Most of the players in this list are recognizable names and most of the others will probably be assigned to the A where they will be assigned more traditional hockey numbers. Thanks man
