GR433 Thanks for the info Nice to know when some of the scrimmages are. Get a chance to see how some teams stack up against each other that don't play each other during the regular season.

Do these teams actually put their first liners up against eachother for a majority of the game? I think that the smarter teams play the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines as well as some of the JV players who may come up to play a few games. Just my 2 cents. It is nice to watch some of those games because they tell ya who is going to be the kids for the next couple of years.

So where is there a place nearby to get some cold refreshment and some eats when we visit?

From what I've witnessed in past years, the players are divided up and play in several scrimmages. You may have a JV kid playing with the Varsity just to get a look. Strictly used for evaluation of the players. You'll see your top line guys playing some. Not sure how much the top guys play due to risk of injury. Last year, Pat White was lost for the beginning of the season due to an ankle injury suffered against Hill Murray in a scrimmage. I think the coaches like to see their younger or untested players in game situations to try to get a read on how they'll be. Last year for instance, an unproven, untested Tim How was thrown to the wolves against Holy Angels in a scrimmage and shut the door, proving he was at the very least an able backup who could play against anyone.

So my real question is how much stock to you guys put in these scrimmages? The only reason I enjoy watching them is to see what kids the program will have for the next few years... And of course for the love of the game.

Obviously some weight will be given to how the players perform. The coach's will get an indication about which players will be on their rosters due to how they play in game situations. You'll also get a small glimpse into the talent of the teams by how they perform overall. With players on the bubble, and new players trying to crack the lineup, you'll probably witness some good hockey as well. The players certainly won't be phoning in their efforts while attempting to make a Varsity squad.

seems that GR is going to have nearly as many scrimmages as practices before their first game.. That's a productive preseason IMO

That is a wonderfull schedule, but please remember that these kids will only have been playing as a team for a little over a week. How they play will not have much to do with how the team will play during or at the end of the season. But, this is a great opportunity to see a lot of the states talented players..... I just wish I could go.
