New Girls HS Hockey scoreboard site added

The Minnesota Girls Hockey Coaches Association (MGHCA) is launching their own scoreboard site with stats, standings, schedules and rosters. Looks to be still in test mode with a few tweaks needed, but hopefully will become a complete resource. Tell your coaches about these site and how much you value having access to up-to-the-minute information.
Select stats/standings at:
www.mghca.com
Also, MaxPreps is back for 07-08:
http://www.maxpreps.com/FanPages/State. ... /Minnesota
You can also find some schedule/results/roster information at the MSHSL site, choose the school you're interested in from the pull down menu:
http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/activitypage.asp?actnum=460
Every one of these sites depends on the participation of coaches, team managers or SIDs to provide the data. Hopefully one or more sites can begin to emerge as a standard.

The MGHCA site looks to be decent, and seems to be more up to date than MAXPreps, at least at this time. Might be nice to have one source.

This site has really impressed me so far.

I only have one problem with this new site:
When it lists scores for teams it lists them Home - Away
So, for example, it said in Edina's section that the score was 1-4 against Burnsville, which typically means they lost the game when in fact they won... it just lists the home team's score first.
Anyone else get confused by this?

I agree it's a little confusing until you get used to it. You just have to remember that the scores follow the same order as the teams are listed. The web design could be improved however as right now the teams are listed vertically but the scores are shown horizontally. Ideally they would just line up the scores next to each team.

I've noticed some errors on this site, including this one which shows two Cloquet players doing the scoring even though it was Stillwater who won 2-0:

Correct Stillwater won, but it was 4-3 in OT that they won I believe

There have been several scoring discrepencies; I think the system relies upon the coaches or a team manager to enter the data. Possibly difficult to editi or add data in the online forms combined with a new process. Hopefully the bugs will get ironed out.
I like reading the game summaries from those who take the time to enter them.

I thought the Star Trib had the Stillwater winning 3-2 in OT. My guess is that Cloquet updated their information but Stillwater has not. So the site shows the two goals for Cloquet but nothing for Stillwater.

MaxPreps also has it 3-2 Stillwater in OT. They have generally been pretty accurate with scores. Of course the Star Trib now links to MaxPreps, so this may be where they are drawing their data from? However, MSHSL also has it 3-2 Stillwater.
The coaches site might need a little seasoning, but it's another resource for scores and info.

Talked to a Cloquet player today. She confirmed the 3-2 OT loss.

I'm sorry for the mis info...it was 3-2 in OT. I guess the main point I was trying to make was that Cloquet did score 2 goals, hench the score board showing Cloquet with 2 goals.
Sorry.

That is what I posted originally, but I added "tentative" because the info came to me second-hand. I really wish there was one site that had accurate scores - with box scores - posted quickly. Right now you cannot completely trust any of the various sources to get it right.
new website

It was my understanding from the coaches meeting that the home team was to update the whole thing, not just their own teams stats. Win or lose, that's who is supposed to update.

According to the coaches I talked to here in Bemidji:
The home team is suppose to update, but not all do. Who ever enters stats and results will have tough time until
all of the teams get their rosters entered in. The reason Stillwater did not show anything is because at the time of that game they hadn't done it. The website does not always recognize a goal if the scorer is not listed. I guess some kind of glitch. The website is new and will take time to iron out all of the quirks.

Not all communities must be using at this point as a number of the teams in our conference do not have player information in or if there is information some of it is inaccurate as in the coach's name and schedules.
It would be great if one system was used by all in the state and kept up to date. I know just dreamin' but looks to be a start of a useable system.
Players stats

The players stats listed on the MGHCA website are VERY incomplete. A large number of teams did not list their rosters and player stats. The MGHCA did not get full cooperation with all the head coaches. Some teams only have stats for one or two games and they were listed by an opposing teams staff or coach. That is not say they are inaccurate. Just that they are incomplete. Hopefully they can prove to everyone that they are committed to their cause and next year it should be better. Right now the best place for scores is
http://www.minnesota-scores.net. They have the most accurate listing of teams, schedules, scores and rankings. There are no websites right now that list all the player stats accurately.

Jet another site to add information

. I enter data for our HS team and have chosen to only use the MGHCA site. Last year there were 4 or 5 different sites that I updated and decided that the additional 2 hours of work each night after the hockey games to enter both the Home and Away stats was more than I was willing to sacrifice. I think the MN HS coaches need to agree on one site and make sure they have a person responsible for entering the data as soon as possible after the home game. I am usually done with posting with in 45 minutes after the final buzzer and then use the site to submit the stats to the various news outfits (PP, StarTrib, Local).
I will say that if you find a team with out their rosters added in to the MGHCA site, you can us the , (comma) as a placeholder for the player name and still enter in the teams goals. That way the score on the front of the stats page is accurate.
Yet another site

Minnesota-scores.com uses the public to enter score and they sometimes have them wrong. I'm in agreement that MGHCA should be the defacto web site for correct scores and stats. It is just not there yet.

Actually, I use the AP scores to post and the public to fill in the blanks or correct the AP.
99.9% of the time when a score is wrong it's because it was reported incorrectly to (or by) the AP.

Ryan, your site is a great resource, I hope you keep it up. I'm sure I speak for all the fans of high school sports in thanking you.
Will you be doing the QRF rankings again this year? These are always interesting and there's a void in the marketplace without coach Goski's KRACH rankings.

Does anyone know a good site for finding out who is in what section?

Minnesota Scores has the sections broken down with current records of the squads.

Can anyone answer why is there not just one place to report scores? Seems like this could cause discrepancies and faults to have to report to several? Best one seems to be the suggestion to have one place to report scores, and who cares if 50 sites pull the information from there, as long as the information is all the same.
It seems that the MGHCA site has the best potential, and is very quick. Yet the information is sketchy at this point. The MN score seems hard to navigate, but quite up to date.

http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/index.asp, will tell everything about sections, playoffs and so on, in every sport. It can be tricky to navagate.
