Bemidji is too physical to give this game away. Their goaltending is stellar and they have 2-3 solid lines. They even have a decent 3rd and 4th line that could give the first 2 breaks. EGF will be down by atleast 2 goals, not including a potential empty net.
Maybe

EGF only lost 3 players from last year and return all of their defensemen whom are all very good sized.
Useldinger is now a year older.
And, everybody knows the goaltender is solid.
EGF's biggest concern will be the 2nd year coach who allowed the team to lose it's discipline in the sectional semis last spring.
If he has control of the team, the game will be very good. I see it going to overtime.

Bemidji is in pretty good shape.
Wizner and Nemgar will be on one line and are capable of scoring often.
The third forward is yet to be decided.
Reierson and Schultz will be on one line (again the 3rd forward is yet to be decided). They can score and will not be scored on veryoften.
The 4th line (???) of sophmores Philips, Curb and Rees have good size and speed and will perform well against other 3rd lines. By season end the should be able to play against 2nd lines.
The other forwards (probably forgetting someone) will fill the 2 spots and make up the 3rd line... Bergquist, Olson, Hartje, Blotske,
Rasmussen... (and a couple more - I did forget).
On D, some real strong returnees as well as some good sophs.
Sullivan, Gregg, Welle, Ehrhorn returning with Hadrava, Hietella, Maggert and one or two I am missing.
Goaltending with Dudgeon will be steady to strong. dokken as the back-up - big and athletic, no experience.

3 - 1 Elves...if Santa's helper's...help their goalie; they should come out with a win.

Bemidji just isn't as good as the NEWsguy35 thinks they are.

e70 is always optimistic but he usually has his feet planted in reality once the season starts.

This is a BIG 8A match-up to start the season.
Better get the oven heated up I MAY have to use BIAFP's recipe for crow on this one.

Not sure if UHL has seen them scrimmage yet but they are definitely going to be a top competitor in the section. Saw the PR-Bemidji scrimmage? They were in it, played Lehrke well minus one or 2 shifts and will physically man-handle EGF. The only way I see EGF winning this game is if Bemidji is in the sin bin for the majority of the game... And EGF still might not win in that case.

Here's the funny part NEWsguy35...you are acting like I've picked the Elves in running time, I picked them by 2...that's my prediction and I'm basing it on a fully returning EGF defensive corps. And no I didn't SEE the PR- Bemidji scrimmage but you sound like they "lost". Check the bold print. It's early yet and my prediction antennae may not be as finely tuned as they should be but I made a prediction based on sound reasoning where you've made your's with your heart. We'll get to see if I'm

I based mine on a solid performance by all 4 lines in the scrimmage I saw them at as well as the fact that I believe they have the goaltending advantage. I give you credit for you knowledge of EGF, I do not know nearly enough about them. However, I do know that it will be a great 2 periods at the very least.

The PR-Bemidji scrimaage was either 5-5 or 6-4(Bemidji), depending on who you talk with.
They did not sit out for penalties. Bemidji was whistled for more penalties, but speaking with the refs, that may have been intentional as Bemidji was called very close - just a scrimmage so not that important/meaningful.
Bemidji rolled four lines. PR rolled 3 in first 1/2. Lehrke got more ice time in the second half.
Bemidji had more scoring opps.
Lehrke looked extremely good.
McMorrow played well, but still ahs a ways to go.
Bemidji's Sullivan was best D man on the ice.
Bemidji's sophs did well.
In a straight up game it comes down to Bemidji watching Lehrke and not giving him room to skate, Dudgeon making some big saves.
How can PR stop Bemidji's 1st two lines and then their soph line.
PR's #1 goalie looked good.
I give the nod to Bemdiji becasue of depth and winning tradition the sophs bring into the team.
As far as EGF goes - good test for both teams to start the year with.
At Bemidji, I take them by one or two.

Goaltending advantage for bemdji? R u kidding me? Christiansen is the best goalie in the section by far. Its not like EGF lost anyone either. They have 3 very solid lines. so thats why i pick them to win by 2.

When did Dokken quit touring with his band to be a back-up goalie? Has be buried the hatchet with Georgie Lynch?

By far is a stretch and we will see when the stats and games roll around. I would like to hear about the scorers EGF has, as I said before I do not know nearly as much about them.

Lets see... Out of there top 5 scorers they lost 1. There leading scorer is back and there first two lines are very good.

EGF dominated the game last year when they weren't in the penalty box. Which wasn't often as they took close to 20 penalties, in a very embarassing game to watch. They return almost everybody (Palmo's playmaking will be missed, but he was hurt most of the year anyway)(They also return 90% of the penalty minutes).
I agree, this is a great game to start off the Section 8A season. This game answers alot of questions on who is going to compete with Warroad in this years section. EGF by 2 in a great game.

Does it even matter neither team is going to do anything in playoffs. Wait Bemidji might, I forgot they moved down because they were sick of getting beat by teams like Roseau, Moorhead, and St. Cloud.

Sounds to me like both teams are riddled with headcases. I have to believe if the refs call this game like they are supposed to, both teams will spend a considerable amount of time in the penalty box. Especially Bemidji, after talking to a friend that watched the Bem/PR scrimmage, he said the lumberjacks were running at everyone gooning it up. It looked as if Lehrke was a big oak, the jacks were trying all night to chop him down. Bottom line, the team that plays "HOCKEY" will previel and win this game.

Bemidji played very physical agianst PR. Most of their penalties were taken by a few players looking to impress the coach by not having a fear to play 'tough'.
No one took any runs at Lehrke. Couldn't catch him.
But watching the corners - PR got some cheap shots in also.
And the 'too many men' change was not called - PR will put themselves away if the AR's are watching. Lehrke can only play so much and if it is killing penalties there will be less time for scoring goals.

Playing tough is one thing, Bemidji was playing CHEAP all game
No they couldn't catch Lehrke but he did get spreared after the whistle"classy"
Don't try to turn this around, anyone watching that game knows that Bemidji was running every PR player all game and when that happens eventually the kids on the receiving end will give something back.
If Bemidji plays like that on Tues, EGF will have 4 pp goals at LEAST.

Interesting...looks like we missed WWIII in that scrimmage. Also, looks like PR has finally found a Section 8A bad blood rival. But I don't see the Lumberjacks on their schedule...less than 40 miles away and big, bad BHS doesn't give them a game? Or didn't the PR AD or Coach have the phone number to call and ask for one - see Creampuff schedule thread

If egf can stay out of the box they will win this one by 2 or 3. it will be interesting to see how discisplined they can play this year.
4-1 EGF
