Anybody know about Stillwater. Saw them in Duluth, they sure look like a top 20 team, but are not rated.

At this early point of the season, I'll predict that Stillwater will have a higher seed in sections than they have in a long time. I'm even giving them a good chance to get to the semifinals of 4AA.sicknasty7722 wrote:They may be a decent team but come section playoff time, they'll be dominated.
I've seen something that they have a sophomore goalie who is supposed to be good.ImissMYhockey wrote:I think stillwater could easily finish top 3 in the SEC and could easily be the 3 seed in section 4. Question though, what is their goalie situation looking like? I know they lost their 2 big stars last year and didn't see much potential on JV when I saw them play.
That would be Cotter from Princeton and yes he is a very good goalie.IMOwbmd wrote:I've seen something that they have a sophomore goalie who is supposed to be good.ImissMYhockey wrote:I think stillwater could easily finish top 3 in the SEC and could easily be the 3 seed in section 4. But i know quite a few players from this year and have been talking to them and they seem pretty confident that in a weaker conference and section they could make a push at the state tournament...
The reviews for Housley from the players have not been good but he has put them in a decent position to contend unlike when they were a laughing stock of the SEC before
Imo, the St. Croix Valley area produces the most talent in the state but alot of great high school players leave
HM- Nick Larson(played in Stillwater through 9th grade, one of the top players in the state last year), Tory Pearson (played in Stillwater Bantams, 3rd liner for the pioneers), Eddie LeTourneau (played Stillwater bantams, JV captain junior year, hurt senior year)
Rochester Century- Collin Briscoe (played for Stillwater A bantams)
St. Thomas Connor Rooney(played Stillwater A bantams, one of the top junior point scorers), Tanner Jirovec(played for Stillwater JV as a sophomore, played a little varsity as a junior for STA, looks to have a bigger role for the cadets this year
Woodbury- Aaron Forstner (played varsity as a sophomore and junior for Stillwater and was elected as a captain but didnt like Housley and transfered)
This years team though should be intresting cause they play a very difficult non conference including the likes of Breck, BSM, in Schwan cup bronze tourney, Grand Rapids, Cloquet, Duluth East, and Holy Angels
Forwards
Line 1- Matt Johnson (d1 prospect and junior captain had 20 points last year playing on the top line), Vinny Ferraro (maybe the most talented player in Stillwater who had been in Housleys dog house but has had major improvements), Ben Wiegand (very talented soph who was JVs leading scorer as a 9th grader last year)
Line 2- Rick King(Senior had 6 points last year), Matt Junker (senior grinder played some on varsity last year), Levi Jenson(senior has varisty expeience)
Line 3- Nick Skarda (3rd year varsity), Sam Soukup (Senior played Varsity last year...5 points...another who had gotten in some trouble), Matt Lindquist (junior who played some varsity last year, really good on JV) Put Hewes in place of Lindquist
Line 4- Wilson Housley( coaches kid who will play varsity this year, was a top scorer for JV last year, not great speed but good hands), Nate Hewes (junior), unsure of last spot Add Lindquist and Cadwell JV last year and maybe Chuhel (don't know)
Defense-
Line 1- Nick Streine (senior captain), Ryan Freeman (senior played varsity last year
Line 2- Aaron Molstad (Senior captain, one of the top pure defenders in the state, wanted to seperate Streine and Molstad), Jake Brown (junior transfer from Hill Murray)
Line 3- Nick Weaver(senior played limited varsity last year), unsure on last spot Add Shikowsky/Jorgensen
Goalies- With Seniors Mogren and McHugh gone and BOTH JV goalies were kicked off the team after the Duluth trip
But their bringing in this Cotter kid from Princeton who from what i heard is a very good goalie and will be their 3 year starter between the pipes...but really dont have any good backups....2 Sophomore, 1 Senior(JV is all he can play this year), and a freshman Tristin Pennella, Soph, will split with Cotter, is very good also, big too.
my expectations are about the same that they have been the past two year with about a 500 record and being the 4-5 spot....but hopefully they can click and get out of the section quarters

idk im just saying a offense that had larson, johnson, gunderson, briscoe, rooney, weber, forstner brothers, and pearson would be pretty dominantsicknasty7722 wrote:HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA.PonyPosse07 wrote:

On another note, what were you saying about two goalies being kicked off the team after Duluth? Elaborate please.
