I am a little embarrassed to ask, but wasn't this due to come out today? The Strib's hockey coverage stinks, but I do like the full page preview each year.

I agree their coverage on everything is terrible these days. I thought the preview was going to come out today also, maybe next Tuesday.

Since October, they've switched a lot of their prep coverage to Wednesdays. I just checked online - startribune.com/preps - and scrolled down and saw a bunch of hockey stories posted, so I assume they will be in tomorrow's paper. Also, they are zoning more of their coverage, so if you live in the south metro and want to see more news about north metro teams, check out the website.

Well I got to weatch Jake Johnson last night and he has some really good skills and is fun to watch. Little guy can can move. Any colleges looking at him that anybody knows of? Few years of juniors and this kid could go places IMO.

The only time there is anything good in that fish wrap a/k/a "The Red Star" is when they read our stuff and steal it.

Now here's in idea...
Here are some tips for paper training a dog:
1. Spread Red Star newspapers over your dog's living space. Use old, or (new in this case) Red Star newspapers - you would not want to soil papers you have not even read yet (unless it's well.... the Red Star). Watch the dog carefully and as soon as you notice it to whimper, sniffing the ground and running in circles, then bring the dog immediately the spot where you want it to do its business (on the Red Star newspaper).When the dog goes potty in the right Red Star newspaper-covered spot, praise it lavishly, before removing the soiled paper.
(that was soiled before he used it anyway).
Caution though, the urge for the dog to finish quickly to get away from the paper can cause a miss!

Good point and I would only add that having the dog pee on it would be an upgrade to the paper especially on any John Milea articles.

Two key hockey figures arrived in Woodbury three years ago: Wes Bolin, who coached for 18 seasons in Fond du Lac, Wis., and David Eddy, a freshman puck chaser from California. Their presence was invaluable as the Royals made their state tournament debut last season. Bolin directed the team to the fourth winning season in school history while Eddy scored a hat trick -- including the game-winning goal in overtime -- in a 4-3 upset of Cretin-Derham Hall in the section championship game. Eddy, who led Woodbury with 47 points as a junior last season, spoke with Star Tribune reporter David La Vaque about his impressions of the State of Hockey, reaching the state tournament and whether the Royals can do it all again this season.
Q What is the hockey scene like in California?
A There are basically three competitive Triple A teams. The rest is pretty watered-down hockey.
Q What was your impression of the hockey culture in Minnesota?
A When I was playing in California we traveled a lot and I talked to players who told me how huge the state hockey tournament was, how they sold out the Xcel Center. I'm like, 'Yeah, sure.' But then I went there to watch the tournament and it was amazing. Just the number of fans at an average high school game is unbelievable. It's awesome.
Q What was the key to beating Cretin-Derham Hall and finally getting to state?
A The second time we played them [a 6-3 Woodbury loss] we knew they were not any better than any other team we played. Then in the championship game, we got down 2-0 before we got the first goal. After that we started talking about how we're tired of losing to these guys and hearing about Cretin this and Cretin that. We decided we could do it.
Q What did you think of playing in the state tournament?
A It was 10 times better than watching, obviously. I looked around and saw a couple rows of Woodbury fans. Then I looked up and saw four other sections full of Woodbury fans. I thought, 'This is awesome. This is what it's all about.'
Q Is this team capable of building on last season's success?
A For sure. I think we have a good group returning. It should be another fun year. We've got the experience of winning the big games, and now we know what it takes in those situations.

The best way to check the preview is on-line so that you can look at the North, South, East and West sections.
Buying the paper at a rack or home delivery doesn't have all of that.
There are nice stories in each section.

It was so bad that they recycled the picture of the "super sophs" from last season. Can't confirm, but it looked familiar. How creative!

Ha... Yea that was in the West section. I think it even said that the picture was from when they were the super sophomores. It's safe to say that we all expected, and deserved, a lot more.It was so bad that they recycled the picture of the "super sophs" from last season. Can't confirm, but it looked familiar. How creative!
