I'm sure Hill-Murray is excellent this year, but they seem to be ringing up some huge margins on inferior teams.

Hopefully they face some stronger teams before the Schwan Cup.

Hill has been pretty dominant over some lesser teams so far & this was to be expected. Consider many of Hill's kids have played alot of hockey prior to the start of the season (Elite league). But Hill will be severly tested in the next few weeks. They will play some of the best in the state over the Holidays & I've said we will know more about this team by the first of the year.

But before all that, Hill has it's annual "rival" game. This is the one everyone looks forward to & plans their schedule around. This is the one that means the most to the alumni. This is the one that helps define whether or not the season is defined as a success or failure. As the game approaches, there is a certain growing buzz in the school & community. This game usually evokes talks about games gone by & the legendary players on both sides. This game is often mentioned as possibly the best rivalry in all of high school hockey. Of course I'm talking about Hill-Murray vs Tartan. It should be another classic!

Maybe one of you Hill fans can explain something to me.

When your in a conference with such powerhouses as

Mahtomedi
Richfield
North St. Paul
South St. Paul
Tartan
Simely
Henry Sibley

Why would you schedule a non-conference game against Park?

Need the break?

A lot of teams have had basically the same non conference schedule for a number of years. There are relationships.

Whats HM supposed to do? Tell Park "you suck this year so we dont want to play you".

This year?

Who benefits with this game?

Relationships I understand, like Cretin playing Blake, Breck, Benilde, and DM. Talk about being biggoted... They do play 1 non-conference public (Edina).

What happens is that they schedule to play certain teams for a number of years. When Johnson dropped out, H-M had to find someone to replace them on the schedule. Due to the fact that most schools already have non-conference opponents booke a number of years out, it was most likely difficult to find a new opponent on short notice. My guess is that the new Park coach is planning on bringing the Park program up from where it is. As the old saying goes, to be the best, you need to beat the best.

So you are telling us that Park got on Roseau and Edina's schedules?

HM schedules their games for a reason. We take the approach that filling our nonconference schedule with "cupcakes" allows us to pad our record & thus get the #1 seed come sections. Being a #1 seed has it's advantages and provides a stronger possibility of getting to state. Looking at Hill's numerous state tournament appearances, this plan seems to be working just fine.

Of course you left out St. Thomas

Anyways, Hill won 11-0 in a pretty solid performance. They're looking pretty good this year - espcially considering their win over BSM and seeing what Benilde did to Totino last night.

And then get pounded 2 and out
To win you actually have to see more competition during the regular season
You big bully
Check out the post Hill v Tartan and see how frustrated the Hill fans get

Not everyone can have the stellar record Tartan has in the state tourney. At Hill, we only aim to be half as good as the Mighty Titans.

Playing Tartan is a good/bad situation. The good thing is this will now put to rest that Hill doesn't play any powerhouse programs. Bad thing is that this will now likely end our undefeated season. Damn Titans!

Get over it. It's really annoying after 2 years.
