Centennial vs. Maple Grove

I attended this game assuming a big Cougar win. Yet, despite Pitlick getting two goals to make his season total 11, the Cougars fell to the Crimson 5-3. Upset special? Looks like the NWSC is up for grabs as of right now.

Only a couple of Cougars worked hard tonight. They are a much better team than they showed.

Pitlick looked lazy. Strand let in some weak goals. Maple Grove looked like they wanted it more. What does this all mean? NWSC is up for grabs.

This doesn't mean the NWSC is up for grabs, in my mind this game was more of a fluke than anything else. If i had to guess, Centennial was more focused on their game against East and didn't take this game seriously. I think it will still be Centennial or possibly Blaine in the NWSC.

fluke or not...they still lost an important conference game...in my view there are 4 teams who could take the crown

Keep in mind this was a 5-2 game with 3 minutes left. Maple Groves Junior line of Malone, Dee and Gross looked extremely good. The NWSC is up for grabs as of now.

Having a fluke against a conference opponent is the worst kind of fluke there is. Champlin Park is now alone on top of the conference at 4-0. CP beat Blaine who is 2-2 in the conference.

They have been relatively quiet. I heard O'neill had a broken arm in the beginning of the season..

Relatively quiet posting a 4-1 record with their only loss being to centennial... Anoka will be real competition in the NWSC this year and in the new 7AA

Lots of teams upset lately - Hill, WBL, Burnsville - now Centennial. Not to take anything away from the teams who pulled off the upsets, obviously they can play and deserve credit for their efforts, but I think these early losses can be great lessons for the best teams. You can't just show up. You must keep your ego in check. You have to work hard every shift. I don't think these losses say anything about the quality and skill of these teams, but instead about their preparation. The Pioneers and Cougars are great teams - either one could end up winning a state title - and these early upsets might just help them to do it.

This is what bothers me the most about when people talk about a hockey team. Sure saying there only loss to Centennial means they are half way decent, but good teams demolish weaker apponents. Anoka beating North Metro 3-2 (4-2 with an empty net) makes me wonder. Centennial isnt as consistent as I had hoped. The team looked weak and lazy. Seeing as there were about 3 hits in the game last night I am waiting to see Centennial play a team that has some bruisers. That Star Trib article about Centennial being physical is out the window after their performance last night.

Why is everyone selling Champlin Park short? Yes they are in 1st place in the NWSC having beat both Maple Grove and Blaine. I think the top 4 teams will be.
Centenial
Anoka
Champlin Park
Blaine

With that said, they are playing very good hockey right now and should go into the Schawn Cup 8-1.
I think the better story is Elk River sitting at 2-4 with a very strong chance to 2-7 after the Holiday Classic.

The better story? Man where I am from we root for our team, not tear down another...

Huh?

How is anyone tearing them down? They are 2-4 and face Edina, Grand Rapids, and Eden Prairie in the next three days. Those are facts. Nowhere did he editorialize. It definitely is big news. They aren't off to a great start.

"the better story is...."

How is it a better story? Not quite sure how that is positive but it definitely carries a negative conotation...

whatever

Dude, the Dolphins were 0-13. That's certainly a better storyline than the Lions taking a swoon or some other AFC team going .500.

Elk River off to a slow start? That's a story. Same with Holy Angels.

Easy there scooter, didn't realize I was tearing them down. I guess from now on I will send you my message to see if it's appropriate before I post it.

whatever it takes... I wasnt bashing you, just wanted to see your real reason for posting what you did. Not sure if you wanted to tear them down or if you havent been through hs english... MY BAD, I will take the blame and be the bad guy.

What's the big deal ER is down this year, I don't think many will dispute it, and could very well be 2-7 after the classic.
Teams get props when they're flying high, and ripped when they are performing below the expected standard, and some average teams never get noticed at all.
If this is as bad as it gets on the Elks I'm pretty sure they can take it.

Never said you were the bad guy. I think the reason I posted was to get some attention not only for a team that is doing surprisingly well in a very tough NWSC ( CP) and also bring to attention that Elk River is off to a rough start and could possibly be 2-7 after the tournament. So, as you put it, I AM cheering for a team that I have ties to and nowhere did I tear down a Elk River.
