Final:

Edina 4
Eden Prairie 1

A very fast-paced and physical game. The hornets outplayed the eagles.

Goals by Edina...Budish (2) Gleason, and Lee

EP goal: Erickson late in the 3rd

The Hornets out played the Eagles. To me it didn't seem like Eps coaches were playing to win. They had their back up goalie in and played their fourth line a lot. Doesn't seem like the time to get kids some playing time. It clearly made a difference in the game.

I was at this game as a neutral fan and I completely agree. They played there sophmore 4th line alot more than they normally would. Also I was very unimpressed by the reffing at this game. THere were numerous times when the refs blew their whistles and then an Edina player would just completely lay out an Eden Prairie seconds after the whistle and there we no penalties, although they did call the game evenly between both sides it was still not the best reffing I have seen.

I dont have a problem with EP playing there fourth line alot in this game. They play in the Lake and so they have 20 conference games leaving them with only 5 others so I would get my fourth line playing in those games too because you arent going to play them in a close Lake game at all.

Yes I agree and think that it was smart to play younger players more. Its a non-conferance game against a very good team. Its a good way to prepare the sophmores for later on in the year when it matters.

4th line really wasn't out there all that often. Leddy was out there every other shift played easily half of the game, and he looked like he was dead by the end of the game.

Can't say that I have seen the use of 4 lines in high school hockey very often. I think most on the board would say the same thing. Most teams go with 3 lines, and 5 D. 1st and 2nd lines play more than 3rd. 5th D is used to rest a tired top 4.

I would bet Edina's 1st and 2nd lines played more than ther third. They probably don't have a fourth. Edina has two former pros coaching their club. Edina plays to win. Playing a 4th line against Edina is not smart hockey management.

You are right, but what you say does not change how the coach decided to play the game last night. It seemed that EP played all of their 4 lines equally, which no one understands why.

Is he trying to please parents, or win hockey games?

He would be in the coaching minority if he wasn't coaching to win.

Yeah that is where I am confused too. My only guess is that he realizes that it is a non-conferance game, and he was trying to get his young guys some playing time against the best in the state so when playoffs come around they are more experienced and know what to expect.

Matt Leer for edina is one of the most physical players I have seen in highschool hockey!!!! He is crazy and hits just as hard as anyone if not harder. Does he have any schools looking at him to be an enforcer next year???

No offense to your logic, the fourth line players shouldn't see the ice in the play-offs. A coach should be run out of town for that kind of thinking.

Hopefully, he is wiser than that :?

I guess he may be trying to get his fourth line players experience in case they need to step in due to injury during playoff time. It does seem a little odd though, especially in a game where EP could have made a big statement.
