Alexandria 2
Breck 0
Final

Breck outshot Alex pretty bad, but scoring chances were pretty even both ways I think.
Delzoppo and Anez had the Alex goals.

Alex came out pretty flat and were out shot about 20 - 5 in the first yet led 1 - 0 The rest of the game was fairly even
Justice looked very good in the nets for Alex
Final shots
Breck 42
Alex 13
Scoring opps were much closer than the shots

Shots were if favor of Breck but I thought the overall total was totally incorrect. Alex out played Breck in the 2nd but the shots still favored Breck according to the Breck scorekeepers.

Quality scoring chances in favor of Alex

From my perspective from the bleachers:
A great game for all! The players had fun and the fans had fun watching. After a week of not being on the ice, the Breck Mustangs lived up to their name and came out skating fast and playing hard. They were impressive to watch. They kept the pressure on the whole game. The Alexandria Cardinals stepped up to the challenge and played some of their best shifts ever. You also have to give credit to their goalie for an incredible 42 shot shut out against a really great team.

That's what the "Great Goalie Performances" thread is for!

I stated this last year and came under attack. The real star of the Alex team is their GOALIE. They are a great team and I believe they are better this year than last, but a great goalie makes all of your skaters look a lot better than they are.

alex has two players that made it to lake placid. There are few teams that can say that. Those two players have already made commitments to D-1 teams.
There are 4 or 5 players on alex that will play college hockey. That is only counting the seniors on the team.
I agree with you on the goalie and she is obviously one of the best goalies in the state, but to say that she makes the rest of the team "look" better than they are, would be a stretch, because they have many talented players.

hockey is a team sport it takes goaltenders to stop pucks -
D to protect the slot & back door and to clear rebounds
forwards to score the goals that give you the win
Alex has good players in all positions

Oh yea, I forgot. All that complete dominate talent, they should be a shoe in to win the state tournament again.

I forget, which one is your daughter, obviously not the goalie.

funny! keep making stabs at the team.. its girls hockey here, give it a rest.
I was just backing up the team and saying that they are more than a goalie.

Have to agree, especially a strong senior class from the games I have seen this team play. Congrats on the win against Breck, looks like it would have been a fun one to watch!

By the way, I am not from Alex or related to anyone from Alex.

Nice of you to edit your post and take out your Faribault stab. It kind of made you a hypocrite.

Alex has a great team and stands a good chance to win state this year. Obviously I am not from Alex or know any of your players personally. I am an outsider, who is very involved with hockey and watches a lot of it. Have seen your team play several times and am very impressed with your goalie. She impresses me in the big games. Her best comes out. I wish she played in Faribault. Be proud of your goalie and thankful. That position is very very important. If you do not think so, ask GHSHOCKEYFAN how his season is going.

I don't know if it so much that a "great" goalie makes the skaters look better as it allows them to be the best they can be. I would think having complete confidence in the goalie would allow them to concentrate on their own position and what they should be doing. The Alex team and their fans, parents and non-parents, are a very close-knit group and have an all-for-one and one-for-all attitude. I'm personally sorry if you were insulted by one of our fans. We appreciate yours and SportsMa's compliments.

Thanks, pond hockey. You never know! Hubby was offered a job in Alex about a year or so ago but kids were not real excited about the idea of moving. So decided to stay put for now. Do enjoy visiting the community and all the great lakes around there. :D
