Problem with Stillwater Hockey team

I graduated last year so i know quite abit of players and talk to them quite abit about the team....and was at the game thursday vs woodbury
The entire team is centered around Sophomore Defensemen Wilson Housley son of coach Phil and has become such a big issue with the entire team on how he shouldnt even be on the ice.
For example he is on the #1 PP unit and the team calls it "Wilson Time" where he just sits at the top and everyone else works their ass off circling trying to get open and he doesnt pass it at all and just shoots right into feet of the opponents and it causes SO many odd rushes for the other team...
Just wondering if anyone had noticed this or heard anything

Yea
A few years ago Housley coached my son's super series team
Both he and Willy thinks he's all that.
Phil wasn't even on the bench coaching during 2 of the games
Hanging out by the glass - hoping he'd draw a crowd I suppose.
I'd look over at him a couple times - he was alone

idk from some of my friends that have played just think housleys an absolute joke....and just cause he was a nhl hall of famer doesnt mean you can coach....Yes, hes only a sophomore but you can just tell phil is trying to make him the next prodigy i can just hear him saying "Ah Wilson if your not scoring 3 goals a game sophomore year your never gonna play in the nhl"

I am sorry, but if you name your kid Wilson, he can 't be destined for great things....this is HOCKEY Phil. Had you named him Gordie, Butch, Hank or something manly maybe he would deserve varisty time as a sophmore, but Wilson?

Seen the Tom Hanks movie Cast Away?

Uh, yeah, I don't see how that relates to the greatest game ever played.
I am sorry, but being a hockey guy, you can't name your son Wilson.
What is Phil's 2nd son named Brandyn - so he is special with a nice unique spelling?
No wonder all games are played indoors now, kids sit out when they have mild sprains/strains, and we need sports pyschologists! GEESH!

How about lack of support for the coach from those that follow the program?

A friend was on his Super Series team when he got pissed and never came back on Sunday cuz the goalie let in a weak goal or something.Took Willy with him. Won't let kids play Bantan A cuz their going to Hill

ya idk if you guys heard about what happend with Aaron Forstner
last year at the end of the year he was elected as an assistant captain and the captain went to now junior matt johnson and aaron thought that was bs that a junior was captain so he transferred to Woodbury......and the only reason Wilson didnt play bantams last year was because david bruchu was elected captain for a bantams and phil didnt like that cause bruchu was going to hill

This does not surprise me at all. Coach/Parents do this all the time. Woog Lucia LaMaire they are all guilty of favortism.

So your saying that if on Wednesday, CP shuts down Housley, they shut down the Ponies. Or are we talking about the exact opposite? I could see favortism of a kid, but your gonna get some media if that favorite happens to be your less than par son.

I don't think that's really all that unusual. This kind of thing has went on for along time. Dad's getting involved to oversee their son's ice time. I don't think it's right, but it happens. Sounds like they have a similar situation with Vannelli at St Thomas, and i'm sure lot's of other places too. I'm not sure the kid's name really has anything to do with anything??

No kidding
I am sure there are several school systems that would love to have Phil as coach.

You could add Wayzata to that list

st thomas doesn't play vannelli any more than he deserves... hes a good defenceman and deserves the ice time he gets.

Housley skates the PP but sees very limited ice the rest of the game. Stillwater only has 3 D that can handle the puck. Thay have 6 senior forwards that need to get moving and start carrying that team.

By your tone I would say you are closer to this then playing last year? He has made some more changes for the Schwan's cup let's see what you think after these games.

WB plays Stillwater on Jan. 3 and the game will be televised on FSN. If anyone has any dirt on the team, it could be helpful to use in our arsenal of props and signs. Lets hear it:

Seriously......... I think the former player who started this post along with many others need to either move on or find a new hobby!
Phil is a great hockey mind and does not need to spend his time listening or caring about what a bunch of couch potatoes think (including me). He could be an NHL coach at the drop of a hat.
When someone takes on the task of trying to turn a program in the right direction there are going to be issues on multiple fronts. Especially from those players who were or are currently feeling like they are not as special as they believe they are.
The term to use here is "players perception of reality" or in many cases "parents perception of reality". I believe there are many players (not just in Stillwater) that think because they are a senior or a good high school player that they are entitled to playing time and respect. Players today need to earn it and spend less time on message board or blogs looking for answers or encouragement to pump their tires and provide a reason to NOT listen to their coach.
Really quick let me touch on this one.......
st thomas doesn't play vannelli any more than he deserves... hes a good defenceman and deserves the ice time he gets.

You must not have seen a game recently. Vannelli falls down on his own in the corner and on the break out and throws the puck around like he is playing raquet ball! Thank god he has a good team to pick him up.
Back to the subject a hand.........
Wilson may not be the fastest but he does have nice hands and some poise on the PP......especially for a sophomore. I think he needs to work on his speed to be a great 5 on 5 player but he does contribute.
Players on the team may feel uncomfortable with him playing in certain situations but trust me...........The Ponies are recieving much better instruction, practice structure, and overall knowledge than a couple years ago. That is an easy one.
If Phil does not accept the position with a program that needs some work and decides to go to a private or established school everyone is talking about how great a coach he is.
Scotty Bowman could not make an impact on many of todays high school teams. You still need players....they make a coach look like a coach! More importantly you need the effort to win.
The fact that some people make fun of a 15 year olds name is also priceless. I am sure there are a few Chucks, Larrys, Bobs, and Ernest's disguising themselves with cool posting names. We all konw the steryotype! And how they would strike fear in their opponent if they could get off the couch to tie their shoes without falling down the stairs.....only to realize that their place is on the coach connected to the web watching reruns of MASH or Star Trek!
Sorry for the long post but I just joined looking to add some insight to those who have blinders on. I have a couple other teams and their "issues" if you can really call them that on the radar!
Lastly......

If you want a sign for next week how about "My coach looses his voice yelling PRESSURE to his team"
That is the only thing I heard at the X this week. Must be feeling it!
