Wow, where did Andover come from? 3-3 tie at Cloquet. That is very impressive. Looks like there's another team in 7AA that will not be an easy W in the quarterfinals.

A tie with Cloquet isn't that impressive. It's not like they came out, dominated, and won by 10 goals or anything.

You are correct.....They didn't win by 10 goals but they played a very good game against a highly respected team. This program is starting to turn the corner and they have a jv team that is also doing very well. Their starting goalie is only a sophomore (that is getting some looks from colleges)and have a couple other sophomores on the varsity team contributing as well. They have gone through some tough times and probably will not make it to state this year but they work hard. Just give this program some credit where credit is due.

You may be right in the big picture of HS hockey, but for Andover this is a big step. They may not be in the top eschelon of 7AA yet, but rapids is right when he says they could give fits in the quarters.

they will be contenders the next few years, their A bantam team was very good last year and they have some skilled juniors as well.

It is hard for teams like Andover to compete in the NWSC. Alot of good teams riddled in there.

Are you kidding? A team that has been nothing but cannon fodder in the quarterfinals ties a team on the road that just beat Duluth East and is competeing for the top seed? That is a huge step for Andover.

That is impressive for Andover. Goldy is a St. Cloud fan so I'd say his opinion is pretty irrelevant in this thread - i'm sure he's never seen Cloquet or Andover play before.

Andover will have a strong program in the years to come...and for the current team...a tie with Cloquet is huge.

Nearly all the Andover players spent their early years playing hockey in the Anoka Association before it split in 2002-2003

Anoka's varsity the past 2 years would have easily advanced to State had it not been for the split with Andover in 2002-2003 and all the associated Andover defections to ER, MV, Totino & Benilde that the split caused (DI players Brett Peterson & Brandon Martel) along with other top players like Dahl, Kraft, the Wallace brothers, the Nagel brothers, the Shibrowski brothers, etc..its a long list.

It's tough to create a HS team from scratch...but Andover is on its way.

They will suffer what most of the smaller AA schools suffer. They may have a little better team for the next couple of years, then will go back to square one. Their PW A & BT A teams will not come close to achieving what the A BT team did last year. There is not much in the youth program.

I'm sure that I've seen them both play so thanks. All I'm saying is that a tie in mid December against a Cloquet team that isn't a top ten team is nothing to indicate Andover is a top team in 7AA

Yeah I bet, you obviously know nothing about either team. Cloquet is a very good hockey team, top 10 no, but a great team either way you look at it. In the past Andover wouldn't have stood a chance 10 out of 10 times against Cloquet. They were no where near the level that Cloquet is at year-after-year. The fact that they were able to tie Cloquet AT Cloquet is pretty amazing considering where they've been in the past.

I'll be sure to remember your comment that sectional games in December don't mean anything.

How do I obviously know nothing about either team? I never said that it wasn't great that Andover tied them all I did was say that they are not a top team in 7AA. That is my opinion, clearly yours is different.

Ya he looked pretty good. He gets real shaken up after he lets in a goal though. Thats sweet that he still has the old school goalie mask.
