growth spurts during high school hockey?

Question(s): How much truth is there to the belief that it does no good to work with weights until you're going (gone) through puberty and into your growth spurt? I've heard both ways from trainers, that it does no good at all and that it is really worth it. Thoughts?
Also, is the idea that you are uncoordinated and unable to excel while you're in your growth spurt valid?

I remember being uncoordinated and unable to excel before, during, and after my growth spurt. Really didn't make a difference. Hope that helps...

what's a growth spurt? I've been 5'7" since 1st grade
does that have anything to do with the belt line?
I know your looking for a serious answer.
I'm a believer in Core Strength Training once you hit puberty along with agility and quickness training but there is no guarantees to its effectiveness. This is not all weight lifting but a focus on center body strength and coordination development.
Training the proper body mechanics I think minimizes the affect of growth spurts on coordination during puberty more so then just weight lifting.
