How/when do coaches make schedules?

Are coaches taking to others about their schedule for next season now? Is it done in the off season? Is it done a couple seasons in advance? How does this all work?

In most schools, AD's make the schedules, but usually with a lot of input from the coaches.
Most schools are tied in with a conference for about 14-18 games, that leaves only so many non-conference games.
Then, you have some traditional non-conference rivalries, so usually most teams are looking for only a handful of other games.
Most non-conference games are signed as two-year contracts, home one year, away the next.
Most schools like to have the following season's schedule done by early spring, so yeah, some scheduling is being done now.

Wow, you guys are up late just to rip on someone for no reason especially Christmas night.
Thanks hockeydad, good info. I was curious about things of how much teams can schedule for down years or good years, and just how it works in general.

Oh yeah, that's really how the world works, I've been in a box for so long. When someone asks you what you did friday night, you always respond "nothing, but Saturday morning on the other hand..."
