Waylon,

Couldn’t you have waited until 4/1 to post this?

It’s all part of the Homeland Security Act.

Closed Practice for the Machine and Duece

Yes, you can watch the Snipers and Grinders but you have to pay to get in...$3 per minute.

Why would anyone care to watch a private team practice?

Posted: Fri Jan 04, 2008 5:42 pm
by HockeyDadMN
They are private teams, with their own rink, they can close the rink on days the teams practice if the want.

Mn Made has found motivated parents willing to pay for more ice time and more expensive training, what's wrong with that?

They have also expanded the private team concept into the winter season with their mite league. They offer more ice time and training, because there is a market for it.

The private route won't be going away, it will grow and I'm sure there will be competition, so they should protect themselves, from others that would want to just clone what they are doing.

Waylon- To be completely honest. It doesn't bother me at all. When you ask what the experts think.
Don't you mean. "Hey! good old boys club. Lets make fun of Minnesota made?"

Waylon- How does Minnesota made personally effect you? Why are you so worried about Minnesota made? Why would I worry about the Machine and Deuce teams if my son isn't playing for those teams? If I did complain. Wouldn't that make me jealous?

Waylon- Shhhhhhh! Keep this a secret. Many families in many associations are already inquiring about next years Choice Mite league. It is true. There is a market for mite aged kids.

Mn Made

"Are they still looking for motivated kids??"

They do find motivated kids, but I doubt it was the kids idea to be "Made" into a hockey player. Hockey is fun and young kids like playing hockey. If the child enjoys hockey and has a parent willing to start buying ice time and training at an early age, there's a very good chance that child will be a good teen aged hockey player.

Mn Made structured their training to promote year around continuous improvement. It works, but they aren't the only alternative. In Minnesota any motivated parent can find and buy their child more hours of ice and continuous training for the same money they would pay Mn Made.

We are lucky here in MN, there is lots of ice and training available. Minnesota is one of the best places in to world to learn hockey.

Closed practices or not, it makes no difference.

If you can honestly look any person in the face and tell me that they are doing anything "different" in the game of hockey than you are delusional.

The principles of hockey are still the same, they are not reinventing the wheel over there off off of east bush lake road, they are just packaging it and marketing it.

Marketing 101, make it seem like they are getting something no else is getting, if I am going to observe a practice to help myself grow as a coach and hockey parent I guarantee you I won't be going to MN made to "steal" anything.

Their are plenty of high school and youth coaches with plenty to offer that I can learn from in the metro and outstate that I respect. Good coaches are thieves, they utilize everything.

My respect will grow for them, if MN made and its followers take anyone and everyone and make them better, not just the top ten percent.

Let's be honest - the MN Machine and Deuce programs have been succesful in putting some pretty darn good teams together...do they do anything special or different in terms of playing the game? - the answer is NO...they do push kids to become better skaters and players...the methods as to how they interact with the kids is potentially what they are trying to avoid other people seeing - we have all heard the stories or seen them first hand and I guess their method for detering the criticism is not to change their belittling style but rather to just not let anyone else see them do what they do...good example is I know that one of the local TV stations was thinking about doing a investigation on MM treatment of kids in their program.

The parents that decide to do this program are probably very pleased and comfortable and that ultimately is what really matters.

Tomass,
It took a bit but the good old boy's are off and running, but what happen to Breakout?

I think MM has good intention's,We will all know more when these 10 and 11 yr olds are 17 and 18,then everyone will say MM,didn't do nothing for that kid.
There was an earlier post how 12-13 kids off that Edina Squirt A team are MM kids, they are incredible,it has been said they might be the best group to ever come out of there,by people who have been around a long time.
I have been around youth hockey a long time now,and 1 thing is for sure,MM has set the bar much higher, and if youv'e been paying attention the last 10 yr's you can't argue that.
Current AAA teams and kids should thank MM for there success,They did not practice the same kind of hours as they do now,nor did they cocentrate on skill development as they do now,I should say that I am using the '90's goup to compare to,That is a very succesfull class, and they did not train as long or hard as these kids are training.
Take what is helpfull from MM and leave the rest

Bashing does get in the way of the issues. I will let you in on the secret. MM does not have the magic formula. None of their drills are significantly different than what you can find in the USA hockey manuals or website. What they do is make the kids do them right, and repeat them over and over. Making the kids pay attention and having them do the skills correctly before they move on is the key. Simple effective drills done right mixed in with fun games will help young kids develop better than anything out there. MM will then cherry pick the kids that show the most promise from their camps and choice league and make them the next machine.

Nothing magical, just good hard work and athletic ability combined with financial resources to keep it going.

Sorno- Way to go out on the limb with this comment:

Isn't this pretty much the way everything works in life? Keep in mind. Minnesota made goes among their business. Parents in the Good old boys club have issues with Minnesota made.

Here's my question:

What do people have against Minnesota made?

Think about it. Why are people so worried about MM? In fact, why are so many people worried about anyone elses kids? Shouldn't people worry about themselves?
It's very evident that some people in the good old boys club seem to worry about Minnesota made. Why?

PEACE!

Boogey,

Don't get so defensive. I think people should let MM do what they do and not care about their style (i.e don't do it if you don't like the atmosphere). Their presence raises the bar for every competing organization and will wake a lot of associations up who had monopolies in the past. My hope is that the associations copy the good aspects of the program and then focus on what the associations do best.

People should realize (and most do), that what they do is nothing magical. As part of their marketing though, they lead a lot of the uninformed to believe that they can take any kid and make them a star if they work hard enough. They will make the kid better if the kid is willing to put in the hours, however, it isn't the only option. Achieving stardom should not be the goal since most will fail regardless of how hard they work, however, that is easier to sell.

Just do what is best for your kid (not the parent).

Still here Waylon. Frankly, it's the same old stuff from you with a different twist  Love to see something original from you :? Got to believe a smart fella like you has something more to add about youth hockey [-o<

Let's talk Burnsville H.S. hockey. How are those 90s doing? Maybe you can start a thread like that on the H.S. side. I will look forward to your indisbutable hockey knowledge :^o

FYI, MM prayer rugs are on sale at MM through the weekend. Yours must be wearing out by now

gilmour,

could you expand on your comments:

"we have all heard the stories or seen them first hand and I guess their method for detering the criticism is not to change their belittling style but rather to just not let anyone else see them do what they do...good example is I know that one of the local TV stations was thinking about doing a investigation on MM treatment of kids in their program."

what is it that you are claiming that MM does to the kids in their programs? is there something that you are seeing that should keep potential skaters from not participating in their programs? have you seen this personally?
