The Lakeville schools play a much tougher schedule than Owatonna, Owatonna wouldn't be 13-2 playing those schedules. Lakeville North beat Mayo 4-1, Owatonna beat Mayo 3-2. Mayo is a strange one, they lost to everyone decent they've played. It also does seem that you get more credit for losing to a good team than beating a bad one and it also seems certain places get way more credit than they deserve, section 7 for example.

I really hope you are not serious.....you can't even begin to compare schedules...lake conf to the big nine. The lake has 5 top 20 teams in the state. The big nine doesnt even come close....the only way to seed these teams is by their inter sectional games...the only undefeated team is lv south 2-0. Seeding the teams this way...it should go like this

1. South
2. North
3. Owatonna
4. Mayo
5. Century
6. Farmington
7. Roch jm
8. Winona
9 D. County

Things could change tho....south visits mayo still and north vs south again i n feb

If Owatonna wins 18-20 they'll be the top seed. It's doubtful either Lakeville team wins 10 games, plus they will have common opponents with Owatonna in Mayo and Century. Owatonna's beaten both, Lakeville N. tied Century.

I think they'll end up;
1-Owatonna
2 & 3-Lakeville S/Lakeville N
4 & 5-Mayo/Century
6-Farmington
7-Winona
8-winner of DC/JM game
9-lose of DC/JM game

The Lakeville teams will be decide by head to head and conference standings, same with Mayo and Century.

Goldy is right. Strength of Schedule means less to a seeding comittee. They will reward Owatonna for a gawdy record. 19-4 = a top seed. That said, this section is an embarassment this year. Century had a really nice squad last year, but do any of these teams have a chance at staying within 3 of any other section winner? Several sections have 5 teams ranked ahead of Owatonna and Mayo's ranking on both Mitch and Lee's sites. It is what it is though...

Yes, 1AA is weak, I doubt any of these teams would be a top 4 team in 1A. However as do any of the teams have a shot at staying within 3, yes. Lakeville North already beat Eden Prairie and South tied Jefferson and you never know waht will happen in sections, an upset or two and we could end up with a bad field like 2 years ago where anything could happen.

Agreed. The section is down....but to say these teams have no chance? Lets look at lakeville south...they have the best goalie in the state. And have been playing well lately....in the past 3 weeks. They have tied jefferson. And lost in ot to ep and eastview...all top 20 teams....when u have goaltendng like that. And the team plays within a system..anything is possible....

It all depends on who is playing well going into the sections. I use this example alot but Burnsville was 4-9 last year half way through the year. They ended 15-10 and made it to the state third place game. Im not saying anyone in this conference is going to rip off 11 of 12 to end the year (especially not LS or LN but if they did I would be VERY impressed) but it just matters how your playing at the end of the year.

I think the championship is going to come down to Owatonna against one of the Lakeville schools. Between those 2 I give the advantage to Lakeville maybe not because there the better team but they are more prepared with a tougher schedule. I'm not sure if it will be North or South but one of the 2 in the finals against owatonna in a close one with the lakeville school on top.

The computer rankings are not going to determine sections of course.
I remember when Lakeville (back when it was one school) got the 5th seed and beat a nice Owatonna team in the 1st round (why couldn't Fish get those guys to win? Gaulrup, Gaulrup, Harriman, Murphy, Pence, Oldenfendt, etc)....anyway Lakeville made it to state as the 5th seed. That could happen this year - it is a 6 team race (I have yet to count out Farmington, although I am not sure if they have the goaltending)

Hakan Yumusalker is not the best goalie in the state....he is quite good and can stand on his head, but so can Yaggy, Ewing, and both Lakeville North goalies.

IF Owatonna beats Mayo AND Century again, they will probably get the #1 seed, but I am still not convinced they are the best team.

If seeds were done now, they would probably get it....If I were to bet, I would take Lakeville South now.

Agreed.

I would probably place my money with lakeville south to win that section

Could you imagine if Lakeville didnt split there athletic programs...they would be a top notch team in almost every major sport.

Pretty sure that's a contributing factor to why they split in the first place. :)

They split because they had to extend there passing time btwn classes to 8 minutes because it was so crowded and because Lakeville was and still is growing so fast. It is in the plan to have another levy asking for money to build a third HS in Lakeville in 2011.

Imagine of Century weren't built....oh, the Mayo teams from 1999-2003....then the JM teams from 2004-2006...then...woulda, coulda, but, if only...

If the Lakeville teams would drop their deadbeat coaches, and keep all the talent that is produced there, they would be damn near unstopable. Everyone in the section is lucky that there are too many arrogant parents in Lakeville that love to find greener grasses.

Owatonna seems to be a funny team. I think that they'll do well the rest of this year but for some reason it's almost too good to be true. I'ld love to see them make an appearance in state, but Section 1 needs to blow the doors down and show the rest of the state that we work just has hard as any other part of Minnesota.
This section is an embarrassment right now!

I just watched Duluth East play 2 games and although it's a small sample size I don't find them all that much better, if any, than Owatonna or 1A Albert Lea. That doesn't mean they'd beat East, they're just not a whole lot of difference between them from what I saw.

Goldy313 - I agree....from what I have seen this year, there is not a huge gap between most teams. There are probably five teams in AA that are considered elite, then team 6-40 could beat anybody on any given night.

Of course there are some elite Class A teams you could add to that list.

unfortunately, there is much to say about this section other than the Lakeville schools should not be in it. Since when is lakeville in southern Minnesota? :? There isn'y a team here in the top 50. One of the Lakeville teams will take it. What has happened to JM?
