Coach Bruce LaRoque

I have nothing but admiration for this guy. The way he handled the goalie situation is first class. He gave the Rapids boys every opportunity to win the starting job before playing the Greenway transfer. Another classy move was not to start Underwood against Greenway. I don't think that was a coincidence. A family member has had dealings with him in the school district and has said he is nice guy who treats the kids with respect. The main reason Rapids has been in all of their games this year can be attributed to him. Rapids does not have any star players, but he certainly is getting the most out of this team.

Rapids coaching staff is one of the finest in the state.

Absolutely the same things a friend of mine told me, he has talked to the Underwood's and said the kid has nothing but great things to say about Coach Bruce and the whole G.R. coaching staff and teamates, and how they practice, play and hang out as a Team both on and off the ice. Hopefully they can turn the close games into wins come playoffs. Like I said before East & G.R. in the 7AA finals. :D :D

Agreed he does an outstanding job. His practices are first rate, and he'll always find a way to get his teams to compete. I believe he has what it takes to make the necessary adjustments come playoff time.

He did handle this situation very well. I do, however, disagree on the star player bit. I believe Sam Rendle is, in nearly every way, a star player.

I agree with boblee, this kid is real good, ask B'ville what they think Rendle( ot winner ) also saw him at the select 17 tourny last summer and he does everything real well.

Agree on Sammy. The kid is a great hockey player. He was great in the sections and state last year. Especially the game vs. East in the semi-finals I totally marveled at his breakout passes. He knew how to find a guy through neutral ice and pass to someone the other team wasn't expecting him to. And the kid makes spectacular spin moves with a purpose.

Underwood is just an all around great kid... i have a few classes with him this year and he really likes it in GR...

And i would have to completely agree on the rendle topic, he always seems to be at a cool on the ice and knows how the game should be played, and has great vision on the ice... i beleive that rapids isnt the best team around(talentwise) but is the most well rounded one hands down.

This makes me laugh. You can't judge a player by one game you saw. Last year in the game in Grand Rapids Tyler Johnson did next to nothing. Was he not a star player?

He did have 4 assists to lead Grand Rapids over archrival Greenway the other day.

Sam Rendle is a gritty hard nosed little guy with nice speed and sees the rink beautifully. Hes Rapids quarterback and moves that puck up ice and gets things moving for Rapids. He took center stage against Cloquet when I was there to watch not only a great game but Jokinen as well. Boblee has good eyes I like Rendle to and would want him on my team!

Coach LaRoque

I was able to skate for coach as a bantam and on jv and he is the best coach I had growing up in GR. Not only does he know the game but he has the ability to relate to each player reguardless of their ability. He loves the game and it showed it every practice and every game. No matter who we were playing we believed we were the best team on the ice. Granted when you grow up in a community that loves hockey each player should believe they are the best team, but he was able to get each player to find a level they may have not thought was possible. He is a great coach and I wish him and the GR program all the best. There are many coaches that can ruin the game for players by putting themself first, but he always had our best interests in mind while I played for him.
