At first I considered starting yet another Mr. Hockey thread, but on second thought...

Please help me ween this list. Who's got to go? Who did I miss? Let's try to get it to five or fewer.

I know others will disagre.. I think the award goes to Caschetta, but we'll see.

The brimsek award is a tough one because going strictly on stats will not tell you who the best goaltender is. Some of these goalies have outstanding gaa's because of the team in front of them. And the competition played.....if the votes go strictly for who is the best goaltender. Regardless of stats, looking at what they have done. Who the competition is and what you have in front of you talent wise, Your winner is

If these guys vote blindly and look at stats only, which is possible? I'm not sure how it works.... I would say your winner will be phillippi.

It is a career award. It seems like you almost have to play 3-4 years of varsity to win it. I wouldnt be surprised at all it Phillippi won it, but in my opinion, Derek Caschetta will.

If its a career award. How does yamusaklr not win it? Hasn't he started every game the past 3 years for south? He has to hold records of most career saves averaging the amount of shots he did the 1st 2 years.

You can't make arguments like that just for him. How about Joe Phillippi? Starter since freshman year, played in three section finals, won two of them, still another year to go.

Or Derek Caschetta. He has had a wonderful career at Edina. His record has to be very, very good.

Who of this group went on/is going on to have the best and most notable post HS career?

Are there no outstate candidates worth a look? What about Foot from Red Wing or Smith from Park Rapids? Smith is a bit of an enigma at the moment, because it's difficult to automatically dismiss an undefeated goaltender.

I have to admit though, before posting the list I seriously considered a poll with only two options...

Cashetta or Phillippi

Yumusaklar may end up a better pro prospect, but I don't think they'll consider him for any award based on how mediocre his team is.

Karl Goehring is still playing in the AHL. Nobody else has made it that far.

Are there many other Minnesota goalies from the same time period that have out performed the awardees? Gone on to successful d1 careers....minors...NHL?? My point being, is there an award in all of Minnesota HS that so poorly predicts how ones career will progress?

Most of them leave before there high school career is over.

John Curry, the kid from Shoreview that played at Breck and then for Boston Univ. He was a Hobey Baker finalist and I think he is in the AHL. Graduated in 2004.

In that order. No need to argue anymore.

To truly compare two goaltenders they have to play under identical circumstances. Of the goalies mentioned only two have this distinction. Morgan And Yumu. They were teammates twice throughout their HS careers. (Selects & Elites) They also both play in the lake conference so they see similar competition night in and night out.

In the end I got to go with Morgan

Regardless who wins this award I always doubt the process. In 2005 Alex kangas wasn't even considered although he had three years of varsity play and began and won three additional games as a freshman--two by shutouts. His high school record includes 18 additional shutouts as the top goalie in the Big 9. Check their website. The 2005 judges didn't.

A.J. Martin? sorry but no goalie from Mora will ever even be considered for the award. Yea he might have good stats but he is seeing 15-20 shots a game from teams like Moose Lake, North Branch, Pequot Lakes, etc. Any half decent goalie would be able to have a GAA of 1. He is an average goalie at best with padded stats from weak teams.

the best goalie in the state this year is michael lee of roseau

but my top 3 for the award this year (in order)

1) cashetta
2) morgan
3) philippi

yumusaklar is a good goalie and an outsider, but a little overrated from what I have seen

I'll agree with your top 3, but I really don't know how you can say Mike Lee is the best goalie in the state. He only sees maybe 15 shots a game and most are from the outside, since very few teams can get inside the roseau defense. Don't get me wrong though, he is a very talented goalie.
