Well it sounds as if Santana will be a member of the New York Mets. Get used to these names. Carlos Gomez, Phil Humber, Deolis Guerra and Kevin Mulvey.

According to mlbtraderumors.com they reported this morning that the Twins offered 5 years 100 Million and Santana declined it. It was better we deal him now and get solid prospects than let him go after the season when we would only get two lousy draft picks. I think this is a good move. Humber and Gomez will be starters very soon. I don't know much about the other two.

Well I hope it goes through for no more than ending the speculation/distraction for the upcoming season.
But I truly saddened. Thanks Johan.

Gomez is highly revered as a five tool player and a possible starting CF for years to come. Humber, should compete for a spot on the starting staff, possibly this year. The other two I have no knowledge of. They are really young and will be in our farm system for a couple years but who knows what the future will bring.

Nice deal by Mr. Smith. Trading a player who will, barring injury, have an impact in only 36 games that makes big $$ for 4 shining stars is a move I think had to be made. I like it.

The guy hit .232 with 12 stolen bases in 58 games. Doesn't really appear to be a CF of the future if you ask me...
His speed should help, though...

They may have gotten more for Garza.
We will see.

I don't know that you can really judge much by a kid who played a third of an MLB season. If you look back a couple of his minor league seasons, he's had a couple of years of 40+ stolen bases (64 in one year). Maybe there's some potential there, but it looks like his OB% and BB are low for a guy with that kind of speed. There must be something wrong with either him making contact, or getting our of the box quick enough.... Sounds like a Rod Carew project to me.

Carlos Gomez
This article offers some insight into Mr. Gomez skills and abilities.

So we're dealing Johan for a young Scott Podsednik is what you're sayin'?

It has been said that Gomez routinely beats Jose Reyes in foot races in Mets camp...now that's some speed.

Among others... and Podsednik has won a title.
Look, I'm not saying that this is necessarily the best option, but let's see where it goes before we start bashing this too much. Some questioned trading A.J. Pierzynski... until they saw what Liriano & Nathan brought with them.
Just based on the number in return, this deal is far better than the Torii Hunter mess.

I am underwhealmed.
I haven't seen a picture of Gomez yet but I assume he will fill out his uniform like Casilla. Good, another skinny fast guy with no pop. Gomez, Casilla, Punto, and Span can all play together after Lamb, Everett, Kubel, and Monroe all breakdown or dip below .192.
Mets fans have to be giggling, they gave up nobody from their current mix and they added the best picture in the game. The only negative will be is a beer will go from $7.25 to $7.50 after they extend Santana.

Yes, but at least get the best prospect in return. They didn't even get that here...
The Twins took the 3rd best offer sent to them. I just don't understand why do this and not do the Phillip Hughes deal? Hell, the Ellsbury deal was better than this, IMO...
I won't rush to conclusions and bash this deal, but it sounds iffy at best to this point.

You know, that may be a legitimate question, but I'll play the odds and say the Twins' starting CF (assuming they have one by the break).
