Has anybody been following Jordy Christian in the BCHL? I hear he has been doing great, like 5th in total points.

37 goals, 37 assists in 49 games. Almost double the next closest guy on his teams point total. 6th in the league in points.

Will he go high in the NHL draft? SCSU could be damn good soon

I don't know how to judge his success up there. AJ Gale didn't play much during his time at SCSU, went back to the BCHL earlier this year and is averaging the same points per game as Jordy.

I would sure say the Spuds miss him. I think he will be better then AJ Jale

Look at Hunter Bishop as an even better example of how BCHL numbers can be very misleading. Bishop ended up leaving North Dakota in the middle of last season because he couldn't break into their lineup with any consistency (only playing four of 16 games before he left). Now he is currently the 2nd leading scorer in the BCHL with 80 pts.

I have heard a comparison made of the BCHL as being a little below the NAHL and defintiely not as good as the USHL.

So is Jordy a little over rated?

I don't think anyone is saying that. I just think they're trying to say that numbers put up in the BCHL are not an accurate depiction of how a player will do in college hockey.

BCHL stats can definately be misleading, but to put them a bit more into perspective... Hunter Bishop is an '87 with prior BCHL experience and the next best guy on his team has 54 points. AJ Gale is also an '87 with prior BCHL experience and the next best guy on his team has 62 points. Christian is an '88 with no prior BCHL experience and the next best guy on his team has 39 points. By the numbers you'd have to expect Jordy to be better than Gale or Bishop, but how much better nobody knows.

you definitely heard wrong if you think the bchl is below the nahl. i'm sure wayne gretzky would agree it's far above the nahl after getting a player like kyle turris last year. the bchl is probably one of the top 3 junior leagues in canada at the tier II level.

I'd be curious to see any info as to number of players from the various leagues that end up with D-1 offers each year? Anyone have any idea where a stat like that might be found? Does anyone have any insight into what the thought process was for Christian and why he chose the BCHL over other available leagues??

** I did a quick peak at the BCHL and NAHL league websites for college comittments, and as far as number of kids with offers per team, they are nearly identical. Although, the NAHL only had 11 teams ( not including the NDTP) with committments listed. I don't know if that means the other teams don't have any or what the reason. But, for the 11 NAHL teams with listings, there are 33 commitments, and for the BCHL's 16 teams, there are 49 commitments....nearly exactly 3 per team. I guess on face value, the somewhat appear similar in talent. It's also interesting to see how few of the BCHL commitments are for Western schools...very heavy to the East.

It varies by year, but a rough count for 2007:

USHL - Too many to count
NAHL - 59
BCHL - 55
OPJHL - 45
AJHL - 33
SJHL - 12
CJHL - 8
MJHL - 7
Many minor leagues

I think he was probably a little miffed over his role last season at Sioux Falls. Also read that the GM of the team he plays for is married to Jordy's second cousin, or something.

I think you are right about the role he had last year playing a part in the decision. I had heard something like that late last Spring.

I have to admit that I don't really know what he would expect under those circumstances though. You can't expect to be a part time player with a team and have the coach insert you into the prime spots over guys who have worked hard for that team all year long. The coach would probably have a mutiny on his hands if he did that just to pacify one guy

Is he scheduled to attend SCSU next season? I wonder what their take is on him switching leagues like he did?

I don't know what scsu's take is, but I am glad to see players follow what they believe might be in their best interest. Way too many times you see junior programs really treat these kids like a pierce of meat. I personally hopes he benefeits from it and has a long and successful career. From what I understand, he is a good kid and most of us know he can play the game.

I agree that what he should have expected, and what he did expect, were largely different. I cannot fault Hartzell either.

UND currently has 7 players on roster from BCHL including Hobey winner Duncan. 3 Zajac brothers all products of BCHL. This is a pretty good indication of talent in that league. And as mentioned above, Turris at Wisconsin drafted 3rd overall last summer by Phoenix Coyotes.
