A prophecy in the life of the demon where did the name hockey come from?
All other major sports are named after the object they play with Baseball, Football, and Tennis. Why isn't it called puck why is it called hockey? When this great game was created by our Canadian neighbors, children were playing puck on a frozen lake and a hawk swooped down and stole the puck. The hawk then proceeded to fly to his nest, and eat the puck. The children returned to their fathers all of whom didn't speak English very well and told them that the hawk eat puck, hawk ea puck, hawkea puck, became hockey puck so it became the game we now know as hockey. 1. The name hockey is thought to have been adapted by the English from the French word hoquet (shepherd´s crook) which is the shape of a hockey stick. The use of this word seems to have emerged in the sport in the 18th century but was not in common usage until the 19th century.

2. Some say the name "hockey" originated around 1740 when British explorers along the St. Lawrence Valley in Canada discovered Indians playing "air hockey" or lacrosse as we now call it. Each time a player was clobbered, he would yell "Ho ee!", - which some think to be the origin of the name.
