Whats your opinion on the nonstop trash talking and unsportsmanlike behavior in general that seems to have become common place in high school hockey. As a player in the 70's and a parent in todays game I'm shocked at the things I see on the ice. Hockey is an intense game that will always generate emotional responses but I see far too many players who have a complete and total disregard for officials, coaches, and their opponents. You see less bolony watching the Wild. How'd we get to this. If I could change one thing in high school hockey it would be teaching our sons to respect the game.

I don't notice this in the games. I don't see any disrespect towards refs, coaches or opponents.

This has nothing to do with hockey, but life in general. Kids have been raised to not respect anything. There are no consequences for anything they do. They see on tv the way murderers and drunk drivers get let out of jail or off the hook and turn around and commit the same crimes. I know that is a drastic example, but it is how it is.
Some coaches do have control of their players, examples are Lechner at Hill, Saterdalen had control of his players. Refs need to just stick to their guns and tell players to shut it or send them to the box. I talk to refs all the time and some do. COaches need to get control of their players and sit them, don't even dress them when they get mouthy. Even if they are the best player on the team.

I remember a Grand Rapids/Roseau JV game about 6 or 7 years ago where a Roseau player told the ref to F off for a penalty call, and the player kinda said it under his breath and the ref came over to the box and pointed to the locker room and tossed him right there. So, I think the refs for the most part don't put up with that kind of disrespect.
