OMG West NP didn't look any better

Worst game I've seen West play all year.

Hutch played very well, had our number and wanted it way more than West.

The better team on 2/12/08 didn't win, but hey it's hockey and it all depends how the puck bounces sometimes. West's goaly stood on her head. Look for Hutch in 2009!
NP, not impressed. One player team but shes the key. NP played good "D" so Wilmar had trouble getting the puck past the blue line. Wilmar had 5 shots on goal, not sure what NP's goaly looks like under presure.
2/14/08 should be a good game. Truthfully I don't see either of these teams going very far at state if the semi games were any indication of how they play in the BIG GAMES!

Didn't NP beat 8-1 Willmar? I wasn't at the game, but I'm curious why you don't think they were impressive. To play strong D, don't they need to have more than 1 key player? How is West going to beat them?

8-1 over willmar isn't really that impressive. Alexandria put in 6 goals in the first period against Willmar, and a overall game total of 12. All four lines were playing by the third period..

I echo Chico. To indicate Willmar had trouble with New Prague in a specific area is an understatement. Shots were something like 40 to 7. Kacy Ambroz is very strong but there's other Senior talent there, for example Breanne Hrabe #17 on D. Daedra Culshaws played at state for 3 yrs, and has 'most saves in a state tournament ' record and others I believe as well. Lots of experience, and they have a good Freshman goalie as well.
I watched part of Mankato Hutchinson game. Mankato has been playing a soft schedule, it showed. Goalie for Mankato is huge size wise, so cant shoot into her.
how many shots did Mankato put up against Hutch? I couldnt find that stat.
Whoever goes to state has to come up against Warroad in the first round and Warroad will be dominant. But I'll be surprised if its Mankato.
Weak schedule? At least we're not 3A!

Interesting you say West had a soft schedule. Does that mean teams that played West had a strong schedule? They played Mayo hard, lost 0-2 and 0-3 though

. Beat South St. Paul, Austin, New Ulm, tell Albert Lea their soft. Beat Novas (whoever they are) at the Austin tourney. Looks like two of those teams will head to state, but that’s right we’re from Southern Minnesota not Iron range or the metro

. We play what they give us. Aren’t to bad for a bunch of pig farmers though. I'm not sure people really know how much offense we have, look at the top 5 point scorers this year, Last I looked they were from West. Look at goal differential, goals against, could it be it wasn’t a weak schedule but maybe a darn good team? Yes I’m a homer!

and yes Roseau or Warroad would probably clean our clocks, but hey it's hockey anything can happen

Besides getting there is most of the fun anyway.

If you are actually a Mankato West dad like your name implies, you need to grow up.

Actually, KatoDad I was talking about teams like Waseca, Rochester Century, Mankato East LeSuer/St Peter and Winona that you played a total of 8 games with.
And of the top 5 point scorers, look like you have two, but 66 of their points came off of their games with the above teams which were all blowouts.
Those girls you have are good, but are they better than all the girls under them in the point count? This is where SOS does matter, and most people who look at those stats realize that.
Looks like you have a young team that will get better over the next few years. Kvasnicka is probably a future D1 player.
I think New Prague this year has more strength, but loses 7 seniors next year and then is in re-building phase.
Nice comments KatoDad

Granted West could be the team of the future in the section, but it wasn't even close last night. NP was faster, deeper, and knew how to finish.
Beating a questionable team (Willmar) 8-1 shouldn't draw criticism for average team performance.

Looks like Ambroz showed you how it is done. You should send her a nice graduation gift. That may be your chance at state next year.

looks like West should have played a little tougher schedule or played their whole team everygame instead of letting those two top players put up 6 or 7 points each against lower-caliber teams. What goes around, Comes around

drawing conclusions?

gocards, easy for you to say now. have you been to see west play?i was at 10-12 west games this year, they played 3 lines most of the time and 4 if they were playing a lower caliber team. they were not just putting those two out there to run their #'s up. in a tougher game, they were out there more, just like the teams they were playing. last night, they had to put them out there every other shift as that is what NP did with their top line. NP was a better team no doubt, even second line good, Ambose, class of the field. but to sit on your computer and act like you know? grow up.

ok, maybe they do run all lines, but against the winonas, wasecas, and the mankato easts, they maybe could have played them a little more instead of letting that top line rack up the points. Im just saying that maybe they got a little taste of their own medicine.

i would say the ended where they were ranked all year. you have 8 teams that go to state, and 8 second place sections teams, that puts them from 9-16 in finishing right? they were ranked from 7-15 all year. i see what your saying, however they played to their potential i feel, they will be a better team next year and with much more experiance. they lose three seniors. the younger girls have potential and will only be better next year.

Rankings, like most things posted here on the 'bored' are just opinions. As for running up the score, check out
http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/schoolactpag ... school=276
or

As an outsider looking in, you could also argue that this team:
http://www.mshsl.org/mshsl/schoolactpag ... actnum=460
ran up the scores as well. Will they get a taste of their own medicine?

ok, well put. Their top players are young and Im sure everyone will see them at state eventually. Especially with New Prague losing many good players this year.
And no, I do not think any team could give Alexandria a taste of their own medicine. Losing to GR-G 1-0 in OT. Losing to Eden Prairie 1-0 in a preseason scrimmage, holding roseau to one goal, and holding breck to zero goals. Alexandrias team this year is very solid. Like I said, West is young and Im sure there time will come.

You really need to look at the box scores on the MGHCA.com website to see the true picture. And yes, Mankato's top scorers were still playing and running up scores on bad teams. Late in those games their top scorer was still scoring with 6 goals for the game. A matchup between Alex's top line and Mankato's top line would not be pretty. Come on and take off your rose colored glasses. Alex backed off once the game was over. Alex showed class. No one will be able to run the score up on Alex. They are that good. I am from neither town just stating it the way it is.

Don't disagree Alex is a good team - they are fun to watch. It's the medicine comment I didn't agree with. Once you get a 6-7 goal lead, there's no need for any top line player to score, no matter the period. Just my view.

We agree. It is wrong for a team's top scorers to continue to score after a team is beaten.
