ST. PAUL, Minnesota (MSBN) - WEST ST. PAUL, MN, FEBRUARY 19, 2008: For the first time in recent memory, hockey fans in the twin cities metro area will be able to hear the Minnesota section hockey tournament on the radio as well as the web, courtesy of the Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network.
That’s because the Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network has teamed up with KNOF 95.3 FM, a radio station in the twin cities metro area that canvases more than 2 million potential listeners, to bring hockey fans into the “MSBN Hockey Zone,” a three-day broadcast event on February 27, 28, and 29. The “MSBN Hockey Zone” will feature live play-by-play of metro area section semi- and final games, as well as take live listen-ins to section finals from across the state of Minnesota. All of the metro area games will also be broadcast live in their entirety on their website, at www.mnsportsnetwork.com .
The feel of the broadcasts will be similar to that of the NCAA basketball tournament during March Madness, as hockey fans will be able to hear what is going on in hockey games not only in the twin cities metro area, but across the state as well. The games that will be featured will be determined as the brackets begin to fill, while MSBN will have a studio host control the live listen-ins and analysis from a studio next to their offices in West St. Paul.
The “MSBN Hockey Zone” will begin coverage of the Minnesota section tournament on February 27 and February 29 at 6:00 pm, while coverage on February 28 will begin at 7:00 pm. During the three days, each of Minnesota’s 16 section final hockey games will be covered, along with the section 5AA semi-finals, which fall on February 27. MSBN is also planning to have coverage of other select semi-final match-ups on their website beginning February 22.
Along with the section tournament, the Minnesota Sports Broadcast Network will also have extensive broadcast coverage of the 2008 Minnesota State Hockey Tournament on March 5-8 at the Xcel Energy Center. All of MSBN’s coverage of the state tournament will be via their website at www.mnsportsnetwork.com .
