It's gonna come down to SCC stopping Denfeld's first line. They have a good D crew and I could see them doing that but i'm gonna say Hunters by a score of 6-4.

Denfeld is going to need a MUCH better performance out of their goaltender than he had against SR. Good thing he is capable of doing so, and I know he'll come back from the poor semifinal performance - he's too good not too. Denfeld's second and third line will step up and the first line will do work as usual. Denfeld back to state in 08 for the first time since 89.

I agree with fkahckyprofessor20 Denfeld is going to pull it off. Denfelds goalie will be in tac and the hunters will make it into the 2008 state tournament. Go Hunters Go

I gotta go with SCC by 2. Coach Johnson knows what it takes to shut down the scoring power of DD.

Sounds like Denfeld is practicing at Cloquet again. Wasn't that the reason why the Semis and Finals were moved out of the MAC in St. Cloud?

I don't really think it's that big of an advantage. The only true advantage is travel time. Where my problem lies is that coaches were upset that Cathedral would play at the same ice they would practice at every day, and that's exactly what Denfeld is doing.

Like I said, it won't have any affect on the outcome, IMO. But it sure raises some questions...

Edit- Clarification, I have not witnessed them actually do this. It was just reported to me as so with some scheduling confirmation.

come on GB
It is not even close to the same thing as ice you are on everyday and your own locker room

i do agree with you that it probably won't matter
i was very impressed with the speed and defense against H-Town on Sat
it was like a totally different team from the game they played just a week earlier

Good Luck to both teams....

SCC doesn't have their own locker room at the MAC. Nor does Apollo. They use the same locker rooms that all teams that play there use (except the Lumberjacks and Blazers).

I'd say it's a pretty close comparison.

As for SCC vs. Hermantown. SCC was out 4 of their regular players against Hermantown the first time. All of them are back now, which really helps the Crusaders chances. Saturday, they had 3 goals and 3 assists from players who didn't play in their first bout with the Hawks..

fair enough
still no comparing it to playing on your home ice though
if the game was at the DECC, i would agree
but that really hasnt helped the poodles the last few years

Schmidt is very good and SCC is quite a young team
they should have a good run for the next couple years

I don't know if it was Smalley who had issue with the finals in St. Cloud, I know Flaherty from DM didn't like it.

If Smalley was one of the guys who had his hand in getting the game out of the MAC, they certainly shouldn't even be putting themselves in a position like this. That's my point.

Eliminating the home-ice advantage concept, the MAC in St. Cloud is the best facility for this tourney. The second best facility is Blaine. Why did they move the championship out of Fogerty??

i dont have an answer for you

beating up on the rangers the last few years was great

Denfeld has NO chance at beating CHS!!! They run 3 solid lines and denfeld has 1.As for Denfelds goalie who looked friggn horrible Sat. he has already been destroyed once by CHS. if sauk could of put more shots on him they could have pulled it off. It is funny how Denfeld has'nt practiced there all year and right before sections starts to.Did the Hawks practice there? 5A needs to rethink this...If you have never been to the MAC it is one of the best arenas for section tournys in the state...At least in the top 10.They have parking, and great seating. As for cloquet I had to walk thru mud and about 3/4 of a mile.

I will have to agree with you. They are a good squad and i think it will be a close game but the hunters are making the trip down to the x. :D :D

I'm not going to spend a lot of time posting in here, because I've seen what these game threads can become.

But I'll just point out this fact:

St. Cloud Cathedral plays all home games at the MAC.

Duluth Denfeld plays all home games at the DECC or Mars Lakeview Arena (when the DECC isn't available).

Before Saturday, neither team had played a game at the Cloquet Area Recreation Center this season.

If my memory serves, no one has ever had an issue with SCC getting ice time at the MAC, and then having the MAC used for the section final. The issue was that the MAC has - for quite some time - been SCC's home facility. It's the same issue people have with the 7AA finals at the DECC, though that's a somewhat different issue, if only because the DECC is the only facility of its kind in this area. If someone wanted to hold the 5A final at the National Hockey Center, I wouldn't have an argument (though I'm sure a few other people would).

Having been to a few 2A finals over the years (what is now 5A, for the most part), I can honestly say that I've not seen any reason to hold the final in a different facility. Cloquet seats just about the right number of people, it offers enough press accommodation for this tournament, and it's an enjoyable atmosphere for a high school hockey game.

I can accept that respone, Bruce.

After all of the talk about the MAC being an unfair competitive advantage for SCC, I don't understand why there isn't a clause preventing this, as this will for sure be thought of by many as an unfair competitive advantage.

We can push this to the side, though. As I said, I don't really think it'll be that big of an advantage (if any). It's the section final and if the boys can't get up for the game they should be in the stands.

Meh. It's not like Denfeld's practiced there all year. If nothing else, it's a discussion piece. Just in case Denfeld springs the upset.

If I were a Cathedral fan, I'd be more worried about a potentially large throng of Denfeld supporters helping will their team to state for the first time in almost 20 years. But, frankly, that would happen if you played this game in Des Moines (and anywhere else but St. Cloud and the immediate area).

And, the Cloquet rink has a dead, mausoleum-like atmosphere, located in the middle of nowhere. It's a long trek to get there for SCC fans, but not for Hunter loyalists.
