I heard today that Hastings coach Russ Welch is stepping down. Can anyone from Hastings confirm this.

Check in with Al Secord. Is he sticking around to collect his Coach of the Year award?

I had my people check with his people. Ain't happen'in fella's. Welch and Housley got a $1 bet to see who can destroy their program first. The way i see it, their deadlocked at this junture. But Welch may have the advantage as his A.D has a long track record of not pulling the trigger. (the good ole boy syndrome) I wish for the good folks down in Hastings i could say this was true, but i'm afraid we've been had again.. Just for the record, Although both good players, i wouldn't give ya a bag of pucks and water bottle for either coach..

At least they were something. Unlike yourself a coward that hides behind a message board. Please tell us a little about yourself Al, what have you ever coached or played to make some one proud? tell us your record as a coach/player/wannabe? You were more then likely a band member with a grudge, you really wanted to be a cheerleader but couldn't skate for that either. I am sure that if you called the Hastings and Stillwater ADs they would get into a bidding war for your services.

Hey Al Secord, did you play against Welch and Housley or what? Did one of these guys beat you out of a position? I know kids left and he does nothing for the youth programs, but why won't the High School get rid of him? I have talked to alot of youth coaches and parents down there and they are not looking forward to there kids playing for him. Why is he still the coach. Anyone?

Russ Welch is a great coach. If you have not played for him, how can you even speak about this topic? Welch knows how to deal with his players and knows the game of hockey. I'm refering to him when he was at SSP.

I did not want this to get to be a bashing of coach Welch, but I guess I would not go as far as saying he is a great coach. He has like 12 wins in the last two years, and they play a very soft Non Conference schedule. I think they have like 5 wins in that Rochester Tourney at X-Mas the last two years. I don't know enough about the situation, I just read what everyone else puts on this board. Maybe it's a unfair post?

nothing against welch as a coach at all, but taking a look at the 2 progams he has coached Hastings and SSP
both youth programs are not very good, maybe he never did anything with either youth programs, maybe he did i'm just saying maybe it has caught up to him.
im in no way bashing him, i'm just saying hastings and ssp had some awesome hs players when he was at both schools but the youth programs seem to catch up to him both times now
