(with 3 champions to go)

Round 1

#2 Edina
Cloquet

(the #4 seeded Jacks have come this far, can they do the unthinkable and beat Edina?)

#3 BSM
Centennial

(Centennial has the firepower to win this game..lets get all the privates out!)

#1 Roseau
Lakeville South

(No one gives section 1AA a chance, can the impossible happen? the 1AA champs dethrone the defending champs?

#4 Woodbury
White Bear Lake

(2 good offensive teams...2 good stories this year...winner goes to the semis!)

None of the top three seeds will lose in the first round. Not going to happen.

There is a reason the games are played....is it likely..no, can it happen? absolutely

Well, if it was impossible for the three seeds not to win, why play the games? So, yeah, you're right, it's not impossible. But, it is a very low order of probability that any of the top three seeds will lose.

Is that a better way of phrasing it?!?! :P

You are not from Woodbury HS, maybe Hill.

Technically, one of the "Lakeville Twins" could go to the Finals versus Edina (or Roseau or HM) and win 20-0. It's an extremely low probability of it happening (probably in the neighborhood of 0.00000000001%). But it's possible (i.e., not "impossible"). Yet, colloquially speaking, one wouldn't be wrong to say, "It's not going to happen".

Technically, it's possible that the sun won't rise in the east tomorrow morning (although probably a million times less likely than the probability that Lakeville beats Roseau 20-0 in the semis and Edina 20-0 in the finals). But, I could say, in a loud voice and with a clear conscience, "It's not going to happen."

I'm writing these words, at this very moment, from my home in Woodbury (on Sunrise Drive, to be even more precise)...

Dont dumb the thing down....point being..in hockey, you have the play the games...

a top 3 seed losing in the 1st round would be no whwere near as big of an upset as...

USA beating the Soviets
Holy Cross beating the Gophers
The Swiss beating Canada in the olympics.

Its a 1 game playoff, anything can happen

Okay. Let's strictly limit this to the game of hockey.

Would you ever say, "It's not going to happen" if I suggested that one of the Lakeville Twins will beat Edina in the Finals 20-0? Or, would you want to hedge your bet and say, "I wouldn't go so far as to say that!! Anything is possible in a one-game playoff!!!"?

Probably not.

Or, perhaps you would. In which case, you'd be the only person in the State of Hockey with such an unusually conservative and cautious prediction.

ok, lol, end of argument right there....there is being reasonable, and then there is being unreasonable....your post of a 20-0 championship...unreasonable....my post of a top 3 team possibly losing...reasonable.

big difference

    Woodbury

The top three seeds will never lose, huh?

Last year, what happened in AA?

#1 seed Edina - LOST to GR
#2 seed Roseau
#3 seed Hill-Murray - LOST to Century
#4 seed Blaine - LOST to Burnsville

Never say never. The top 4 seeds this year look very solid (Edina, Roseau, H-M (if they beat WBL), B-StM????), but how many of us thought that 3 of the top 4 would lose last year?

I'd like to see:

Edina - Cloquet - horsshoe effect! Go Lumberjacks!
H-M - Centennial
B-StM - Woodbury - could be a wide open fun game to watch
Roseau - L'ville - I could leave early to head back home early after the 2nd period - I'll have to teach the next morning!

Should be an outstanding tournament, as usual. I would also not really care who wins, as long as the final game is close or goes OT. We also have not had any 2 or 3 overtime marathon games for a while - we're due for an instant classic this year!

O-Town, yours look pretty darn good to me. When do they decide what games will happen?

Predicting a Hill-Murray victory tonight:

#2 Edina vs Blaine/Centennial winner- Match-up between 2 good Cities teams

#3 Hill-Murray vs Woodbury- Battle for the east side

#1 Roseau vs Lakeville South/North- Favorite vs the underdog

#4 Benilde vs Cloquet- Public vs Private, North vs South, etc.

#2 Edina vs. Cloquet (as much as I would like to see an Edina/Roseau final, nothing would be better than seeing the north beat up on the cake... AGAIN)

#3 Benilde vs. Blaine/Cent (either team has a good shot at beating the private)

#1 Roseau vs. Woodbury (Rematch from last year, why not?)

#4 Hill/WBL winner (probably Hill) if WBL wins exchange with Blaine/cent winner vs. Lakeville (Maybe hill can lose in the 1st round to section 1 again, you never know.

Everyone said that last year too. Two of the three lost. Be careful. Only one seeded team won their quarterfinal game last season.

Should Centennial make it, I'm torn between a Roseau/Centennial and a Roseau/Cloquet first round match up.

Hill/Woodbury would be nice too.

Cloquet/Roseau first round. They need to get one of those northern schools out early

Edina/Hill round one and get half of the evil out early

I think that one is unlikely since both look to be seeded. Wouldn't it be better for you if Roseau took it upon themselves to waste both?

I think my lineup afforded a Centennial-Hill-Edina path for Roseau. After beating that Murderers Row you won't hear a peep about the quality of their competition.

How is Hill-Murray evil? A respected Catholic school outside St. Paul with students and faculty all doing the Lord's work.

Two years ago there were 2 great match ups on Thursday night
Hill vs Tonka and Roseau vs GR

I would love to see a set up like that again where we could see:
Roseau vs Cloquet and Benilde vs Edina

But thanks to the seeding thing we will not see a set up like that again. That would have made for a great opening night.

I guess since we have to have seeds I guess I would like to see
Benilde vs Blaine or Centennial
Edina vs Woodbury
Roseau vs Cloquet
Hill (Assuming they make it) vs Lakeville

Some fun matchups I would like to see...

HM vs BSM (Battle of the privates)

Cloquet vs Roseau (Battle of the North)

Woodbury vs HM (Woodbury upset them last year, repeat?)

Edina vs BSM (Rematch from X-mas)

Edina vs Roseau (Top 2 teams all year and top 2 high school programs of all-time)

Whether its the QF, SF, or finals, some good matchups to see.
