Congratulations to the Jacks on an impressive run through the 7AA playoffs. The coaches and players deserve this trip to St. Paul after being in the final for four consecutive years.
Growing up in Cloquet I know what this means to the city of Cloquet and the surrounding towns. I will be pulling for you all from the Metro this year.
I am happy for the kids who came up through the youth ranks, and for the guys like David Brown who made the decision to leave his home state and play his High School Hockey in Minnesota with one goal in mind, to play in the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament.
Relish this moment fellas, you've earned it!

I am so glad I was wrong. I didn't give Cloquet a chance to beat either East or Anoka. I don't know what Coach Esse did but he should be coach of the year. I'm not taking anything away from the players, but Esse deserves a lot of credit. Good luck at State and bring a trophy back.

I like your lunchbox team monicker. Cloquet's teams have traditionally been built on hard work & defense. The really good Cloquet teams have generally had one high profile scorer (Corey Millen, Derek Plante, Jamie Langenbrunner (though Petrov & Novak were nice compliments), Tyler Johnson, etc).
What they may lack in talent on paper, they more than make up for in hard work. This was evident during their run through the 7AA tourney.
Nay sayers shouldn't be so fast to write them off in St. Paul next week. On second though, go ahead and write them off, it seems to motivate them.

How did Cloquet do it because they didn't look that great against South Saint Paul at the beginning of the year. Did they bring back Langenbrunner and Plante for the post season run?

Cloquet's regular season wasn't great by any measure. They had a couple nice wins in December vs. WBL and East but seemed to be free-falling through January with multiple losses in the LSC and several lackluster efforts. What turned this season around? Probably the fortunate draw of Duluth East in the semifinals. The East-Cloquet rivalry is so strong that it wipes out either team's edge in talent, and Cloquet played hard and got a few breaks. That gave them the confidence they needed to get by Anoka. I doubt they'd have won a semifinal against Anoka or Rapids. They deserve a lot of credit for pulling things together at the right time, though.

Congrats boys... I think the big key for the Jacks is their team play. Yes, David Brown is playing out of his mind, but the whole team is really starting to gel. Their 3rd line had 3 or 4 great scoring chances. And I don't think Anoka even skated their 3rd line much. Aaron Baker is playing very solid. Overall great team effort!!! Keep it going for 9 more periods. I may be a little biased, but I thought Zach Dunaisky also played a great game. Good luck next week.

Loved seeing the jacks win this one. Great job! just goes to show that the only season that matters is the PLAYOFFS. Go play your hearts out at the X.

i thought #4 dillion anderson i think played one of his best games ever against anoka. he was hitting everyone didn't allow anoka to get moving to fast and was very smart with the puck. CeC overall played well and they won as a team good job boys. Party in St. Paul for us fans.

Brown has been on the team for three years, so let's let that one go. He is Cloquet enough for me. Victor Carlsson was the kid last year and he was very good. Esse is a great coach and he may deserve coach of the year. He does a great job every single year.

Congrats to Cloquet....I'll admit that before the game I wasn't so sure that cloquet could pull it out, but while watching the game I thought that they looked like they wanted it more... hopefully they can represent Section 7AA well..I'm sure the last two years nobody expected Grand Rapids to be in the finals so you never know i guess?

And Mr. hockey finalist Justin Jokinen is what, then???
He is their top player, not Brown. Brown has scored almost half of his goals in the last two games. He has the hot hand right now, but Jokinen is still the guy that stands out on the ice. As for Carlsson, he is a good player as well, but much of his success is fed off of Jokinen.

Brown was not "recruited" either. Why is it that every player who moves once in his life is a recruit? That was a few years ago, anyway...

Well, as of late Jokinen has been playing half assed and Brown has been showing he wants it more. Don't get me wrong Jokinen is good but i think Brown deserved nomination for Mr. Hockey.

I really don't think Jokinen is that good anymore. His play the last two games I've seen him has been very lazy. Plus the few shots he got off against Anoka really weren't that good. His assist in the final was luck that he touched the puck before the other kid scored. Brown has definitely been playing better, and hustiling way more. It's kind of like Jokinen thinks other people will go into the boards and get the puck for him, and then pass to him. It's like he's not making an effort to go and make anything happen, like Brown is doing. For Cloquet to stand a chance against Edina, which they won't, Jokinen and Brown both need to play very well. Along with the goalie, Baker is it?

If they keep playing the way they have the last 2 games ive watched they will do fine,If jokinen steps it up they will have a good chance

You're right, Cloquet is the underdog once again. But I think the odds are too high this time. Baker did pretty well in the Anoka game, but it was really actually the defense. Anoka never really got set up. I think I counted 4 times the puck was right in front of the Aloquet net, and Anoka just couldn't get a stick on it, otherwise they would've scored. Also, I saw on another shot how the puck fell in between Baker's legs, and was inching towards the net, but a defenseman stepped in and stopped it before Baker realized where it was.

I think they have been playing well, but Edinas really dang good, and the experience factor comes in to play too. I'm not trying to rub it in, well sort of

, but when was the last time Cloquet played at the X? Long enough ago so that none of the players on Cloquet have ever played there. It's a big game on a big stage and I think nerves will come in to play.

Cloquet has played so well and have worked so hard and deserve this. Who knows if they'll be able to get past Edina but really they deserve this.

And to clear things up about David Brown...He's from Colorado his older brother attended college at UMD as a non-student-athlete he wanted to play hockey in Minnesota. Before going to Cloquet he tried to get into East and stay with someone East but no one offered him a place to live so he went to Cloquet and his senior year he puts his team on his back and beats East when it counts...so recruiting by Cloquet? Not this time. Sorry. Way to go David you and your team are going to state and let's hope for an upset (again)!

Jokinen is one of the best players on the team. Yes, he has had a few slow games but he has worked his ass off all year. Saying Jokinen is not the best player is like saying your not fat.
Ok if you say giving a 60% effort all year is working your ass off, I guess your right minnman. So saying jokinen is the best player on the team is like me saying you know a lot about high school hockey.

So giving 60% effort all year got him his nominaion for Mr. Hockey. Last time I checked you have to be one of the top players in the state to be nominated. A 60% effort all year wouldnt bring in scouts or a nomination of any sort.
