Section seeding...

So, we're all about making things about better hockey. There were plenty of threads complaining about the quality of game in sections. There was 1 upset beyond the 4/5 game and most 1/8, 2/7 or 3/6 games were real blowouts. What if instead of the typical seeding they were seeded:

1 v 5
4 v 8
2 v 7
3 v 6

This would keep the bracket the same pending no upsets. There may be a few less upsets, but the games would be as lopsided. The margin of victory in the 1/8 games ranged from 3 goals in 2A to 13 goals in 3 sections and 10 goals in 2 sections. There were 3 sections that weren't 1,2,3,4 in the semi's. two were 4/5 upsets and one was a 2/7 upset. Upsets may go down, but they would mean more and games would be worth going to.

I wouldn't suggest this for state yet, although it would be better for the quality of hockey. Assuming Roseau gets the top seed it basically makes the #1 team play even less good games. We can rat on them over and over but they are in a position where they played 3 blowouts in sections, probably their first game will be. If my idea were used for sections and state they would at least be playing better games.

Thoughts?

Why do you keep repeating yourself in every thread but trying to say it differently?

Your theory sucks to me. Why would the #1 seed have to play a #5 seed and not the #8 seed. Why would you want the #1 seed to potentially get knocked out in the first round. This formula that you use will just get a lot of lower seeded teams in.

It sucks, move on.

How am I repeating myself in every thread? This is the first time I've come forward with this idea. I've changed my thoughts a little bit too:
1 v 5
3 v 7
2 v 6
4 v 8

This way in the first round everyone plays a team 4 seeds above/below them. Then pending no upsets a team 2 seeds above/below you. Sure, there's more chance of an upset, but that way the hockey is better.

Not saying that rewarding a team for doing well in the season isn't a good idea, but that this would make hockey games better. Many #1 seeds have a cake walk. They play the #8 then the #4.

Of the 7 people who voted thus far 5 have said it could be good.

Also, this (in theory) would have less upsets than now. The 4 seeds wouldn't lose as many games. Probably less upsets overall.

Coaches poll to seed all 8 teams.

Reggie, what's your point? My idea operates with the assumption 8 teams were seeded.

You create a world where teams would rather be the 4 seed than the 1 seed. That's a problem

Sure, in the ideal world you'd want to be the 4 seed instead of the 1 seed, but no coach is going to say "okay, three games left guys, let's lose them close so we get the #4 seed"

Yes, it probably wouldn't be practical right away, but it would make the hockey games better, which is what i'm saying.
